Today we’d like to introduce you to Edina Musa.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Edina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My whole life, I have been playing sports. Coming from a family where my father owned a basketball team and was the head coach of Macedonian National Team, the love for the game was in my blood. The hard work during my childhood years was paid off by receiving full high school basketball scholarship in the States where I moved and continued with my education and basketball career in the year of 2008. My performance was noticed by few D1 universities and was given full basketball scholarship for my college education. After receiving my graduate degree, I moved back home to Macedonia where I continued to play basketball as well as starting to work as a Fitness trainer. I fell in love with my job and was amazed at how you can completely transform your body by implementing the right training and nutritional program. I saw a new challenge, bodybuilding competition. I have signed up for the National Championship in the year of 2017, where I won the first place in my category Fitness Bikini and was an overall winner as well. This has given me an opportunity to participate in the World Championship 2017, where I was ranked 12th place. This experience had a great impact on me personally and professionally. Today, I enjoy working with many individuals as together, we are working on reaching their personal goals.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, it was a smooth way for me. I believe that the reason for that is because I was always doing what I love, so any challenges that occurred I didn’t really look at them as a reason to struggle or stop what I was doing. My advice for any woman is to figure out what they really want out of their life, which makes them happy. It is important to have a goal and a plan on how to get there. Once you have that, consistency and dedication will take care of the rest. Because of that, I always say to do what you love, cuz nothing in life comes easy, but you have passion for the hardship and challenges that may come your way would be easier to overcome.
Please tell us about being a Fitness Trainer and Nutritionist.
For over six years, I have been working as a personal trainer, customizing personalized training programs along with a nutritional diet according to the client’s needs and goals. Being a professional athlete (Basketball player and bikini fitness competitor) has helped me to be able to work with individuals with various goals and lifestyles. I strongly believe that my experience in playing sports has a great impact on me as a trainer now because I can understand better the process my clients undergo through the whole process. I feel like it is of big importance to not only be knowledgeable of what you are doing but also to be a great accountability partner to your client. As a trainer, I am very proud of having happy and satisfied clients. My goal is not only to help them reach their personal goals but to try to influence them positively in many aspects and introduce them to the fitness and healthy lifestyle world. Building a great relationship with my clients is also very important to me. They are my team and we always try to be there for each other, and I think this is one of the characteristics that can make me different from others. I work with many different individuals with different goals, however, my specialization is weight loss for women.
Who have you been inspired by?
A child does not learn from what the parents say, but from what parents do. My inspiration is my mother, such a sweet, humble, hardworking and dedicated person.
From an early age, she has taught me to always stand up for myself and for what I believe in. She taught me how to be strong enough to face each and every situation/challenge in my life. My mother was the one who has guided me, loved me, supported me and motivated through my whole life (she still does). She has also taught me how to stand up for myself and for what I believed in, and to never be afraid to take the next step and get out of my comfort zone in order to pursue my dreams. My mother is my backbone who has always worked upon my growth.
A lady of gratitude that never reciprocates wrong done to her. Her love for life and her ability to always keep that pretty smile on her face even when she was going through hard times has really impacted my life. She taught me how to love life and always find the good in everything. She made me a happy person, fulfilled with love, so much love that I can unselfishly share with other people. She led by an example and I followed it. Everything I am today, I owe it to my mother.
