Today we’d like to introduce you to Deaja Vire.
Deaja, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Le’Vire BlowDry & Beauty Atelier (pronounced at-l-yey) is a premier salon. I got my start doing hair fresh out of beauty school, the school I attended had a salon fair for job placement into salons, and several places wanted me. I made the decision to first go to JCPenny salon and build my clientele. After 2/2.5 years, I moved to another salon and I grew unhappy there. I realized that the stylist ran the salon business because the owners didn’t know anything about the hair industry. So, in faith, I started to just entertain the idea of owning my own salon. I started to look for locations and viewed the third one is currently my salon home of 2.5 years. If it wasn’t for God, I honestly wouldn’t have this space at all. This woman came into the salon I worked at that time and mentioned that her old salon had closed down. She mentioned, the last operational day, they had and where it was located. It’s crazy because the area I’m in is one that has been gentrified and I wasn’t sure if they were even looking for a business like mine or if I could even afford to be there. The kicker is! When she came in that day, my shift had been over about 30/45 minutes, I was just still there talking to a coworker. It was indeed a divine appointment by God! So, I’m grateful and just so glad to have this opportunity in business, and entrepreneurship. Faith is believing in seeing (manifesting) because…it’s like a seed you can’t see it growing beneath the soil, but as soon as that first break of green pop-ups we know that something indeed was happening. I’m just again grateful for the opportunity to bring what I enjoy to life in such a major way.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been smooth. In fact, nothing in life is… my struggles have been just resources and utilizing them. I started Le’Vire out of pocket, so I don’t have a surplus of income to allocate to something. Being a new business owner comes with lots of planning but, no matter how much you think you’ve figured it all out there are things we miss.
I would say don’t allow the bumps in the road to turn into mountains in the road. Give yourself grace when you make errors or mistakes. No successful business doesn’t come with a few failures. Also, don’t allow you being a woman to keep you from branching out into business. As long as you know your stuff, you’re equally as powerful as any male counterpart.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Le’Vire BlowDry & Beauty Atelier – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.

Customer service is key! My clients make my business! I have all five-star ratings online and I’m proud of that. I’m most proud that I get to show my daughters that hard work pays off and you can dream big dreams! That life has its ups and downs and no matter if or when things seem tough you gotta keep pushing toward your goals.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel like as a gender we women are built by nature to be strong. We have children and also a mother and that is all tough work, especially because we don’t get a manual for life. We are sometimes single moms or we are working women or business owners. Women are so dope because we wear many many hats and can do many many things. Women have so many more opportunities now than ever before. I am a minority woman, I have come to realize that there are opportunities out here, we just have to find what lane we fit in and then apply pressure on the gas to get there.
