Life & Work with April Brown, LMFT of Online Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Brown, LMFT

Hi April, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
I received by Bachelors from the University of Miami in Neuroscience. It was during this time I was actively involved in an organization called Camp Kesem. Camp Kesem is a national organization that develops programs to supports kids through their parent’s battle with cancer. I knew from that experience that I wanted to become involved more in Psychotherapy and so I pursued by Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I specialize in working with Mothers and those with Anxiety after my own personal experience with Anxiety and challenges Postpartum.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always challenges. Challenges in navigating having a child, finishing my doctorate degree, while also starting up and maintaining my own business. Know you are not alone through those challenges. It is during these challenges that you have to remind yourself and reconnect with your “why”. Why you want to do this, why this is important to you.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in working with Moms and Dads that are not feeling themselves. It might be from the stress of birth trauma, relationship issues after a new baby, Postpartum Depression or Postpartum Anxiety. They might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious about the health of their baby, unable to sleep, and worried how their decisions and well-being might be stealing precious time with being present with their child. They worry about their bond and relationship with their child and how their challenges might impact that. I help them to feel whole again, to feel themselves so they can feel confident in their bond and decisions as a parent.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I, too, navigate a relationship with anxiety and have since I was a young child. Through my training, continued work on my own self-awareness, I have been able to learn a lot about how to navigate my own anxiety. I too have gone and go to therapy. I find it a wonderful tool for myself and for my relationship.
