Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tim Schmidt Sr. of Weston

Tim Schmidt Sr. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Tim, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up at 5 A.M. and handle client tasks with my team while having coffee. I get in a quick stretch and head to Weston Regional Park to play pickleball with my friends at 6:30. I like keeping things moving with my team before everyone else starts their day and then a quick disconnection to get exercise and be outdoors before the business day starts for everyone else.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Website Rescue SEO Company focuses on helping local businesses increase their traffic online. We do this through search engine optimization, Google Business Profile optimization, and even YouTube optimization. People are searching for local businesses every day and we help connect them with people who can provide them services.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My Father. He was a model citizen and typical hard working Midwestern man who used to wake me up at 4:00 AM to shove snow in the cold Minnesota winters so he could get to work at the US Bank Corporate office in downtown Minneapolis. He taught me from an early age that hard work will always outpace aptitude and that by working hard and taking notes from mentors was the way to get ahead in life.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I don’t know if I’ll ever heal from the loss of my son. He was taken from us at the young age of 19 years old in a mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, where he was celebrating Halloween with friends. He was just an innocent bystander along with 75,000+ other people when a gunman opened up fire on the streets. There’s really no playbook for what to do when you lose your only child, but we honor him daily and started a non profit charity called Until Forever that assists victim’s families of senseless crimes. While that won’t heal our wounds, it hopefully lifts up people in need and lets them know they are not alone.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I talk my book and pride myself in being highly transparent.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
Traveling. Seeing the world and learning about other cultures is the most eye opening experience for me and I always feel disconnected from reality.
