We recently had the chance to connect with Suranghee Subasinghe and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Suranghee, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Being a mother, playing this role as a parent is definitely the most terrifying yet rewarding thing I’ve ever done. Given my career choice being a parent can be extremely challenging however, life gave me this gift and I now get to share what I love to do with my daughter.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Suranghee, I go by suroshinn. I’m a tattoo artist based in miami, Florida. I’ve been tattooing for over 12 years and I specialize in fineline black and grey. I enjoy the little details especially if the image is based of a photo. I love realism and try to capture the same essence onto the tattoo. I’m currently working on expanding my studio to create a multi purpose space for all creatives and families in the miami/broward area.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
When I won my first check for an art show back in high school. I’m not sure if I came in second or third but i remembered it was just me amongst few other kids from multiple schools. Receiving that certificate and check I realized that this was something I’m supposed to do.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely! Quite often as any caring business owner. The challenges the career brings makes it hard for someone as a mother to take on. But my clients are the reason I push forward. I love what I do and to be able to make it this far has been its own validation for me.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
In order, my friends say that following three things truly matter to me:
Famiy
A peaceful home
A strong career
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop being afraid and take this jump to opening the studio I’ve dreamed of!
