Shanique , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would absolutely hire myself in a heartbeat. I bring both skill and dedication to my craft. I’m reliable, detail-oriented, consistent, and committed to providing not only great lashes, but also a great client experience. I genuinely love what I do. I think that is exactly what makes me someone worth hiring.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shanique Taylor. I am a lash artist located in Miramar, FL. I am the owner of Maniac Minkz, LLC. I have been apart of the lash industry since 2019. I am a versatile lash artist specializing in classic, hybrid, and volume sets, with customizable add-ons including wispy effects, color accents, decals, and bottom lashes. What makes my lash business special is the balance I create between artistry and care. Lashes are not simply about appearance to me. Lashes embody confidence & self expression. Every lash set I do is tailored to highlight my clients natural beauty and fit their everyday lifestyle. I’ve built strong relationships with my clients because I take the time to listen, educate them on lash health, and make sure they leave feeling not just beautiful, but seen and heard. Overall, It’s about creating an experience that feels personal & uplifting every single time. Currently, I am working on selling lash products locally & online. I can’t wait to see what god has in store for me next along my journey.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I always believed life was meant to be a struggle. I grew up watching my family constantly work hard just to make ends meet. I never imagined myself as an entrepreneur or thought I could actually create my own opportunities. Stepping into the beauty industry changed my life and mindset around success. Faith, self-belief, and growth opened doors for me that I didn’t even know existed. Now, I know you do not have to wait for opportunities, you can build them yourself. That mindset shift has changed everything for me personally and professionally.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. There have definitely been times when I considered giving up. Especially during slow seasons or when the self-doubt creeps in. I’d question if I was really built for this or if I should have just stayed in my field after earning my degree. What keeps me grounded is the never- ending support that I receive from my clients. The constant reminder of how I have come so far from when I started. Their encouragement and desire to keep their lashes done truly fuels me. It also helped me realize that I do not have to choose between one path or the other. I’m working in my field now and still running my lash business. It doesn’t have to be ‘this OR that’, you can have it all if you believe in yourself and put the work in.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
People say the lash Industry is too saturated. I say it’s only crowded for those who stop growing. There’s always room for real passion and quality work. No one can duplicate your touch, your energy, or the experience you can give your clients. When you stay true to your craft and keep evolving, there’s always space for you. My business is a true testament to that.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, my clients would definitely miss the combination of things that make my service unique: the quality and retention of my lashes, the comfort of my suite, and the personal connection that I build with each person. Undoubtedly, they would miss that safe, uplifting space that I create.
