Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Ricky Singh of St.Petersberg, FL

We recently had the chance to connect with Ricky Singh and have shared our conversation below.

Ricky , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
When I’m in my studio working with resin, time completely disappears. There’s something magical about watching colors blend, swirl, and settle into patterns that feel both spontaneous and intentional. It’s a process that demands patience but also lets me play. In those hours, I’m not thinking about anything else—just the art taking shape in front of me.

And while the work is deeply personal, it’s the community around me that helps me “find myself” again. Spending time with other artists at the ArtsXchange, sharing stories, ideas, and support, grounds me. It reminds me why I chose this path in the first place.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
From Hobby to full time Artist: How Resin Art Transformed My Life in St. Petersburg

I never set out to be an artist. In fact, before the pandemic, the idea of spending hours surrounded by paint, resin, and brushes felt like someone else’s dream. But when my workplace closed during COVID, I found myself at home, restless and searching for something to fill the silence. One day, I stumbled upon a YouTube tutorial on resin art—and just like that, I was hooked.

What began as a way to pass the time quickly grew into something much bigger. Resin art drew me in with its colors, textures, and endless possibilities. Before I knew it, I wasn’t just experimenting in my basement table—I was reimagining my life.

Three years ago, I made a leap of faith and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, to pursue art full-time. It was here that I found not only a studio space at the Warehouse Arts District—better known as the ArtsXchange—but also a true community. Under one roof, thirty studios buzz with creativity, each artist bringing their own story, talent, and energy. These fellow artists have become my extended family: inclusive, caring, and inspiring in ways I never expected.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world handed me labels and expectations, I was simply curious. I loved exploring, trying new things, and following whatever sparked my interest—without worrying about whether it “made sense” or fit into a plan. Somewhere along the way, like many of us, I started shaping myself around what was practical, what was expected, what others thought I should be.

It wasn’t until I found art that I reconnected with that original version of myself—the one who wasn’t afraid to experiment, to play, to fail, and to keep going. In many ways, art gave me permission to return to that person I was before the world tried to define me.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
One of the defining wounds of my life was going through a divorce just before moving to St. Petersburg. It was painful to let go of the life I thought I would have. In many ways, it left me feeling untethered and unsure of who I was outside of that relationship.

Art became my way of healing. It gave me a sense of purpose and a space to express emotions I couldn’t put into words. And moving to St. Petersburg, stepping into the ArtsXchange community, surrounded me with people who were kind, inclusive, and supportive. They reminded me that even in loss, you can create something beautiful and start again.

My wounds haven’t disappeared—they’re part of me—but they’ve transformed into colors and shapes in my work, and into a deeper appreciation for community and self-discovery.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
For much of my life, I was caught up in worrying about what other people thought of me. Every choice, every step forward came with that lingering question: “How will this look? What will people say?” It held me back more than I realized.

Moving to St. Petersburg and being welcomed by my new friends changed everything. Their support and encouragement helped me let go of that fear. Creating alongside them has shown me that freedom comes from expressing yourself without judgment. Now, I think freely, live authentically, and am happier than I’ve ever been—all because of the community I found here.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in my studio, surrounded by colors, resin, and the creative process. There’s a quiet magic in watching a piece come to life, where time slips away and everything else fades into the background.

But it’s not just the art—it’s the moments spent with my friends , sharing stories, laughter, and inspiration. Being in that space, creating and connecting, reminds me that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. That combination of focus, freedom, and community is pure peace for me.
