We recently had the chance to connect with Jennifer Hardiman and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Slowly waking up, grabbing a Diet Coke, eating some Reese’s Mini Peanut Butter cups and scrolling social media for a few.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jennifer Hardiman and I started Fabuluxe Events 15 years ago. It’s my third career and my most rewarding and the thing I love most! I started working with events doing charitable work for children’s charities. Specifically children with special needs.
I truly believe working with each of our couples is a partnership and collaboration. We want to have fun while managing a process that can be emotional and stressful. I like to say that Fabuluxe weddings are elegant and playful.
One thing that is truly exciting is that Fabuluxe Events is entering the luxury destination wedding market. In March, we had our first luxury destination wedding in Los Cabos Mexico and we are hooked!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I am an oldest daughter. So all of the stuff that comes along with that has been in my world. I truly believed that everything had to be perfect all of the time. After quite a bit of therapy and self-introspection and the support of my husband, I learned that isn’t true. I am much more progress over perfection now.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
In the first few years of Fabuluxe Events I almost gave up multiple times. I think anyone starting a business from scratch would say the same thing. It’s daunting and overwhelming and scary. But when our first ever bride walked down the aisle it was a feeling that is indescribable. I knew then that I would do whatever it takes to make Fabuluxe Events a success.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I learned a long time ago that you can’t be something you’re not. Everyone knows that I am the Diet Coke queen, but I have been that way since high school. As I have gotten older, I have actually gained confidence and there is a feeling of freedom in that. I don’t have to be someone I am not. I know that I am not for every couple or won’t be friends with everyone I meet. And that’s ok. You can’t be all things to all people and that was a lesson learned the hard way.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I am gone I hope people say that she was kind and genuine. And that it wasn’t an act. I want people to know that I gave everything to my marriage and my kids. That I gave all that I had to my couples and my team. And that it wasn’t about the accolades or recognition but it was because that is who I am in my soul.
