Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Gabriel Perez

We recently had the chance to connect with Gabriel Perez and have shared our conversation below.

Gabriel , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Drawing in my sketchbook. When it’s just me, a page, and my pens or markers, I can let my ideas flow freely. Add a good playlist and a strong coffee—or an ice-cold beer depending on the vibe—and I can easily fall into a creative flow state. Whether I’m sketching at my desk, a café, or a brewery, I surround myself with references and artwork that inspire me. Hours can pass as I dive into the details and let the drawing evolve. When it’s personal work, I let time disappear. For client work, though, I’ll set timers so I stay on track—gotta balance the creative freedom with practical deadlines, haha.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Gabriel G. Perez. I’m a Concept Artist, Illustrator, and founder of GGP CREATES, my creative studio based in Miami, FL. Through GGP CREATES, I bring ideas to life by developing striking concept art and visual designs for industries like video games, cruise and travel, virtual and augmented reality, and themed entertainment. My creative process blends traditional drawing techniques with digital tools like Adobe Creative Suite and 3D modeling software.

What makes my work stand out is my ability to fuse visual storytelling with strategic goals, whether it’s designing immersive environments for a game or crafting experiential visuals for a live event. Beyond client work, GGP CREATES also serves as a platform for my personal projects, including illustration, merch design, and passion-fueled artwork. My influences come from comic books, heavy metal, fantasy, and Magic: The Gathering—creative spaces that have shaped my imagination since childhood.

I’m always exploring new ways to connect with audiences visually and continue growing GGP CREATES as both a creative studio and a reflection of my artistic journey.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Trust. Losing it can fracture even the strongest relationships, while rebuilding it—though not easy—is what brings people back together. I strive to be someone others can rely on, both personally and professionally. As an artist and designer, trust plays a huge role in how I work with clients. That’s why I value clear communication, meeting deadlines, and being consistent. Whether in creative collaborations or friendships, I believe trust is the foundation that holds everything together—and it’s built through action, not words.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t doubt yourself. Believe in your ability to grow, to learn, and to bounce back from mistakes. Rejection isn’t the end—it’s often the beginning of something better. I know my younger self feared rejection, and it held me back from fully stepping into my potential as an artist and a person. But over time, I’ve learned that the real limits are often the ones we place on ourselves. When you push past fear and step out of your comfort zone, even when it’s uncomfortable, you open the door to growth, connection, and some of life’s most fulfilling opportunities. So to my younger self: trust your path, be bold, and don’t be afraid to go after the best that life has to offer.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
As an artist, I used to believe that perfection was the ultimate goal in every piece I created. I’d spend countless hours obsessing over tiny detail, most of which would go unnoticed, only to end up burned out or stuck in creative limbo. Over time, I realized that perfectionism was holding me back more than it was helping. What truly matters is confidence in my decisions and staying true to the story or emotion I want to express. Today, I value finishing and sharing work that feels honest and complete over endlessly chasing an unattainable ideal.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What light inside you have you been dimming?
The light I’ve been dimming is the act of creating personal artwork, just for myself. Over the past few years, life’s responsibilities have taken center stage, and I’ve noticed I don’t draw as freely or as often as I used to. It’s easy to get caught up in client work, deadlines, and logistics, and lose sight of the joy that comes from simply making something for the love of it. Recently, I’ve been working to reignite that spark by reconnecting with local creative groups like Art Club, Draw Lab Miami, and El Fresco Vinyl Tuesdays. These spaces remind me to slow down, make time for creative play, and let my personal passions like heavy metal, comics, and fantasy art show up in the artworks I create.
