We recently had the chance to connect with Ev Talesman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ev, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I just opened my own private studio this year which has allowed me to spend more time with my son. Every day is different but they all include trying to balance motherhood, owning a business and still making time for my own personal life. I am grateful for the freedom this allows me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have been tattooing since 2012. I’ve traditionally worked in walk in style/custom shops and just recently made the venture to step out on my own.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Living on my own and making money for myself. Just knowing that no matter what I can always take of myself has always empowered me.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think there’s a lot of times where we all want to give up. Life isn’t easy. I’ve had my fair share of traumatic experiences in life which I feel I could have taken and completely shut down. Instead I’ve always tried to go up and move forward no matter what gets thrown my way
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
There is only one way to be successful and if you step outside of the box in anyway, you will fail.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When my son is laughing and happy.
