We recently had the chance to connect with Bud Fleisher and have shared our conversation below.
Bud , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: When was the last time you felt true joy?
Honestly, I feel it daily. My wife and I have a 7 year old son, a big noisy dog, and being with them is the “nowhere else I want to be.”
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Me, Let’s Party! DJs, Reverend Buddy Wedding Officiant, So Flo Photographers, and South Florida Weddings — it’s all connected.
My nearly 40-year-old DJ business has grown into a family of brands under one umbrella. I’m always building, collaborating, and creating. The results vary — but the reputation speaks well overall.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Great question — but honestly, I’ve always been me. As a kid, I was shy and a little timid, but by around nine or ten, I started speaking up. I realized most people are just looking for approval from others who don’t really know what they’re doing either — a pretty silly cycle. Funny enough, I recently caught up with someone from high school who said, unprompted, “Well, you ALWAYS marched to your own beat.”
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Hands down it would be “don’t get sidetracked. what you’re doing is working so far. build on that.”
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Oh man, I love this question. The truth is, people are always people. The newest style, color, playlist, or décor trend comes and goes before you can blink. I really don’t care about any of that. Just look at photos from the ’90s — they already look quaint, sometimes silly, and definitely overpriced.
What actually lasts is reliability and quality. Real trusted relationships. That’s the real foundation.
The bigger shift I’ve noticed isn’t in what people wear or where they get married — it’s in how people live. Smaller families, smaller social circles, more remote work, more isolation. Add in the cultural divide pushed by social media and its algorithms, and it’s no wonder we’re all a little disconnected.
Honestly, it’s kind of scary. We’ve reached a point where the only lift some folks get all day is from how much engagement a post gets. That’s not good.
Meet people. Talk face-to-face. You’ll find you’ve got a lot more in common than you think.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
LOL. They’d be fine. I’ve got some amazing clients I’ve worked with for years, but let’s be honest — most people are mostly focused on what they’re having for lunch. The truth is, that kind of answer only comes when someone actually moves on to another service.
What I’ve learned over time is that the only thing we really have is what’s happening right now. This exact second.
And hey — you just read that sentence, right? Guess what? That moment’s already gone. Hope you don’t regret it.
