We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ana Meira. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Ana, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Lately, I’ve been feeling both—often at the same time—as we get ready to celebrate REGULAR ANIMAL’s 10th anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since we started this agency with little more than drive and imagination. And yet, here we are—still independent, still growing, and still working with people and brands we truly admire.
As we’ve started pulling together stories, projects, and creative moments from the last ten years, it’s brought a lot of laughter and a real sense of pride. We’ve built meaningful relationships, created work we love, and found our rhythm in an industry that’s always shifting.
Someone recently said that REGULAR ANIMAL feels like an old friend at this point—and I kind of love that. There’s something beautiful about creating something that keeps evolving without losing its original spirit.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Ana Meira, founding partner of REGULAR ANIMAL, a Miami-based creative agency that works at the intersection of strategy, design, and storytelling. We’re a small team with a global outlook, partnering with organizations across industries—from fashion and fragrance to tech and sustainability—to help them define who they are, what they stand for, and how they show up in the world.
What makes REGULAR ANIMAL unique is our ability to think both strategically and creatively. We’re as comfortable developing a brand from scratch as we are designing an interactive dice-based training game or launching a storytelling toolkit for a global fragrance line. We believe in ideas that travel, brands that evolve, and in doing things with care, craft, and curiosity.
Right now, we’re gearing up for our 10th anniversary in August—a milestone that’s prompted us to look back at the work, the people, and the principles that shaped us. It’s been a wild and meaningful ride—and we’re just getting started.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A turning point for me was realizing that you don’t have to do things the way other agencies do—or follow what’s supposedly the “right” path. There’s so much pressure in our industry to grow fast, scale up, follow trends, or chase certain types of recognition. But at some point, I understood that none of that mattered if the work didn’t feel honest, if the team wasn’t thriving, or if I couldn’t stand by what we were putting out into the world.
That realization reshaped how I lead REGULAR ANIMAL. We’re not here to be the biggest. We’re here to do meaningful work, to collaborate with purpose, and to enjoy the process—without losing ourselves in the pursuit. Growth is only worth it if it comes with depth, integrity, and joy. And for us, that’s been the most rewarding path by far.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Challenges have taught me things success never could. When things are going well, it’s easy to feel confident and certain. But it’s in the hard moments—when plans fall apart, when doubt creeps in, when you feel like you’ve hit a wall—that you discover what you’re really made of.
For me, those moments built a kind of quiet strength. They taught me that progress isn’t always linear, that clarity often comes after chaos, and that if you keep showing up—with intention, with heart—you get through it. Sometimes stronger, sometimes wiser, but always more grounded.
I’ve learned not to romanticize resilience, but to respect it. It’s what keeps you going when things feel uncertain. And it’s what allows you to build something that lasts—not just in terms of a business, but in terms of a life that’s truly your own.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies is that every agency needs to be a unicorn—loud, flashy, constantly chasing the next big thing. But sometimes, what brands really need is a steady partner. One that’s thorough, strategic, and capable of doing impeccable work without the theatrics. That’s why we aim to be a REGULAR ANIMAL. We’re not trying to be mythical—we’re trying to be real, consistent, and quietly exceptional.
Another myth is that creativity should always lead, no matter what. But creativity without strategy is just noise. We believe the best ideas are grounded in clear thinking and aligned with long-term goals. Originality matters—but so does relevance.
And finally, there’s this idea that brands should be omnipresent—always talking, always posting, always on. But good communication also means knowing when to listen, when to pause, and when to stay silent. Discernment is part of the craft.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
If I ever regret something, it’s not listening to myself sooner. For years, I tried to perform the way I thought I was supposed to—following external expectations, fitting into molds, doing things “the right way.” It took time to unlearn all that and start doing things on my own terms.
At first, it feels like jumping without knowing where you’ll land. But once you do it—once you trust that internal voice that’s been quietly guiding you all along—the landing is better than you imagined. Clearer, steadier, yours.
We all have that voice. It knows who we are and what we want. We just need to get better at listening.
