Alejandro, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Every event we design and produce brings its own joy. But what makes me most proud is seeing the faces of our guests — that moment when happiness and wonder take over. It’s a reminder that all the effort, all the sleepless nights, are worth it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Alejandro Muguerza, co-founder of Le Basque. We started the company 33 years ago in Miami, dedicated to designing, producing, and catering exceptional events. What began as a small, local team has grown into a company that now works across continents, always with the same philosophy — timeless elegance, meticulous detail, and a seamless sense of atmosphere. What makes us unique is our ability to merge culinary excellence with design. Every event is a complete environment, a moment suspended in time.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I was a child, I saw Fantasia by Walt Disney. The music, the imagination, the sense of wonder — it stayed with me forever. Around the same time, I saw The Nutcracker at Covent Garden, and I decided then that fantasy would be my compass. That sense of beauty and possibility can solve many problems, if you apply it with practicality and good will. It’s how I still approach everything — from a table setting to the architecture of an evening.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That we are here for a very short time. Time passes quickly, and you must do your best — for yourself and for others — before you regret not having done so. Pain has a way of simplifying things; it reminds you of what truly matters.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Confrontation. We live in an age of division, but I believe in making peace — with everyone, no
matter what they believe. Help whenever you can. That’s what endures.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop getting so involved in the day-to-day operations — and travel, travel, travel. There’s so much still to see, to learn, and to taste.
