Kristin Wejebe of Summerland Key on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kristin Wejebe. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Kristin, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Get my boys ready for school, make coffee, walk my dog, and shower

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Got it—here’s a polished intro that weaves in **impact metrics (2), your differentiator (3), podcast clarity (4), and your personal stake (5)** in one strong, flowing piece:

I’m Krissy Wejebe, Executive Director of the **Jose Wejebe Spanish Fly Memorial Foundation** and daughter of legendary angler and TV host, Jose Wejebe. Carrying my father’s legacy is more than protecting a brand—it’s about using fishing as a tool for healing, mentorship, and conservation.

Through the Foundation, we’ve taken over **600 recipients** fishing—foster kids, veterans, and families in crisis—giving them experiences that build confidence and connection to the water. Our crews have also removed more than **300,000 pounds of debris** after Hurricane Irma, showing that conservation isn’t just talk, it’s action. What makes us different is this fusion: no other organization blends a global fishing brand with grassroots impact in the Florida Keys, honoring a legacy while actively shaping the next generation of watermen and women.

I also oversee **Spanish Fly Enterprises**, which manages media, events, and apparel. This structure allows us to keep the nonprofit focused on impact while building a sustainable future for the Spanish Fly brand. Right now, that means expanding our conservation-first tournaments, launching a modern reboot of the **Spanish Fly TV show**, and creating new media that educates and inspires.

One project I’m especially excited about is **The Wejebe Way**, a new podcast I’m producing with Captain Collective. It’s not just about fishing—it’s about the mindset, craft, and values that shape how we live on and off the water. Through conversations with guides, anglers, and ocean advocates, we’re sharing the lessons behind the legacy.

For me, this isn’t just business—it’s personal. My father believed that time on the water could transform lives, and I carry that responsibility forward every day. Whether it’s a child catching their first fish, a veteran finding peace, or a family learning to care for the ocean, those moments remind me why this work matters. Spanish Fly isn’t just a brand; it’s a movement to educate, inspire, and keep adventure tied to purpose.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That life was fair.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
How resilient I am.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Money causes and fixes everything

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Working
