Julie Kim of Miami Shores on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Julie Kim and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My mornings are sacred. I start slowly and intentionally. As soon as I wake up, I put on some soft jazz and take a few cozy minutes to snuggle with my pup. I drink a tall glass of water or a warm lemon water before making my half-decaf, half-regular coffee.

While it brews, I take my pup outside for a quick potty walk. When we get back, I settle onto my balcony with my coffee, facing the ocean and letting the morning sun wash over me for about 10 to 15 minutes. I usually take this quiet time to meditate and center myself for the day ahead.

Next, I head out for a workout. Afterward, I make fresh celery juice, get ready for work, and prepare a high-protein meal to fuel me through the morning. Then I’m off to start my day grounded and energized.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I’d say there was a moment when I was just a small child, maybe around 4 or 5 years old. I stood up to someone much bigger and older than me to protect someone who couldn’t stand up for themselves, even though I was terrified. Looking back on that moment, I realize how much courage I’ve always carried within me. Makes me proud of my inner child.☺️

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I’ve faced a lot in life, losing a sibling and a parent at a young age being the hardest. It forces you to grow. It cracks you open, makes you question everything, and yet somehow plants the seed for healing. I guess I’m just an old soul, and my spirit chose these experiences for my growth in this lifetime.

Growth and healing isn’t always soft or pretty. It’s messy and painful. But over time, I’ve learned that time does heal, if you let it. It has brought me a lot of wisdom, compassion for myself, humanity and animals. I’m grateful for the teachers, healers, and my soul tribe who’ve held space for me along the way. I do think grief is just part of life bc it’s proof that we’ve loved deeply and that, to me, is what makes being human so beautiful.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I’ve been told my whole life that people don’t change or that it’s nearly impossible to. But I’ve learned that couldn’t be further from the truth. People change all the time when they choose to. I’m living proof of that!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Putting things off until ‘another time’ bc there might not be another time. The best time is now. Life is short.
