jamie katz’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

jamie katz shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning jamie, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Wake up, let out my tracking dogs, feed everyone, let them out again, and start making call backs from the day before if not called back yet. I never know the rest of my day, but it always starts the same.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jamie Katz; I’m a licensed Private Investigator, and I specialize in Lost & Stolen Pets. Growing up, i spent alot of time thinking about how I could find a career, that included both animals and investigations. In 2014, my friends cat went missing, and I got scammed trying to hire a company to help her. I was on craigslist looking through the lost and found pets, and came a cross an add. The headline said something like, We’re Private Investigators who find lost dogs, cats and gerbils… and We Use Tracking Dogs. My first thought was how stupid, my second was how do i contact them? Once i got a hold of the PI agency , they told me they were on her way, and for the next three days, made up excuses of why they wouldn’t be able to arrive until the next morning. It was all crazy, but on the third day, Honey was found under our neighbors house next door. The story went like this. We were asking our neighbor Nina if she saw Honey, and she told us no, but that she thought there was a fight or someone tried breaking in to back porch last night. Immediately, I thought cat fight, not cat burglar. I told my friend to go under the house and check. There was Honey, all the way in the back room under the house, being held hostage by a feral cat named Bubelah. My friend crawled under with a broom to shoo the hissing cat away from Honey and was able to bring Honey out safely, We didn’t know Bubelah had a name, until a couple years later, while I was on a photo shoot. The photographer asked me how this pi stuff all started, and once I was done with my story… she told me that was her cat from years prior that didn’t want to be an indoor cat, and his name was Bubelah. Wild Wild times. I also just started a Lost Pet App named Rosie; it’s all lost and found pets in the world, on one map. As of now, its on my website, but were also starting the process of making it an actual app .

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My dogs

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Holding Animals Close

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
The Rosie lost Pet App and always learning more with my dogs and the best ways to work as a team.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
the best pet detective ever
