Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Roddy.
Hi Vincent, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I moved to South Florida 12 years ago as a young Emergency Medicine Physician eager to make an impact. I began my journey at Broward Health Medical Center, where I was eventually promoted to Assistant Medical Director. That opportunity taught me a lot about leadership, responsibility, and how to build trust across every level of a hospital. I later became the Medical Director at North Shore Medical Center’s Emergency Department, where I truly found my stride leading a team and helping a department evolve.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was still working full-time in the ED when I enrolled at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. I earned my MBA and was honored to serve as our class’s graduation speaker. That moment helped clarify what I had been feeling for some time: I wanted to do more—not just for patients, but for the people who care for them.
So I made the hardest decision of my life. I stepped away from a position I loved—with no company name, no clients, no roadmap—but with a mission. In the wake of the pandemic, I saw how easily the wellbeing of healthcare workers could be forgotten. I believed that by prioritizing the health, wellness, and support of the care team, we could naturally deliver high-quality, passionate, and empathetic care to every patient.
I founded Synergy Medical Collective (SMC) with that belief at its core.
Shortly after, I pitched our values—justice, fair pay, and teamwork—to the leadership at Keralty Hospital Miami. They believed in the mission and took a chance on me and SMC. Today, we’re proud to be their exclusive Emergency Medicine staffing partner. And we’ve built something special.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No—definitely not smooth. But I’ve never doubted the path.
Leaving a stable, well-respected position without a guaranteed future isn’t an easy decision. There were logistical challenges: building operations from scratch, forming contracts from the ground up, and recruiting the right physicians who not only had the skill, but who also aligned with the values and culture I envisioned for SMC.
And there were emotional challenges too—walking away from a hospital and team I truly cared about in order to pursue something bigger.
But I stayed focused—and more determined than ever to bring our vision to life.
I believed, and still believe, that if we stay true to our mission—supporting patients and healthcare workers first—then success will always follow. And two years later, it has.
We’ve been impressed with Synergy Medical Collective, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Synergy Medical Collective (SMC) is a physician-founded, physician-led Emergency Medicine staffing and consulting firm based in Miami. We provide full-service Emergency Department coverage—from board-certified physicians to resident and student education, community engagement, hospital consulting, and revenue optimization. We also offer locum tenens services to hospitals across the country that need flexible, high-quality physician coverage.
What makes us different is that we’re independent and mission-driven. We’re not owned by private equity. We’re led by physicians who understand the realities of frontline care. Every decision we make is guided by one question: Will this help patients and support healthcare workers?
Our physicians aren’t just highly trained—they’re deeply committed, mission-aligned leaders who elevate the entire clinical environment. We emphasize value-added time in the Emergency Department, which means we focus on the moments that truly matter in a patient’s care—not just checking boxes.
What I’m most proud of is the team we’ve built and the caliber of physicians who continue to join us. Our expansion into locum tenens wasn’t forced—it happened organically. The demand to work with SMC outpaced our available roles, and the solution we created in Miami proved scalable. Our national expansion is simply the next step in our mission to support more hospitals and more healthcare workers across the country.
We’ve also made a measurable impact. Since partnering with Keralty Hospital Miami, we helped raise their Google review score from 3.9 to 4.5—a reflection of the improved patient experience. A well-run Emergency Department doesn’t just improve emergency care—it raises the standard for the entire hospital.
SMC is ready to expand to other hospitals and health systems. If you’re a leader looking to elevate your Emergency Department—or in need of reliable locum coverage—we want to hear from you. We’re ready to get to work!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Relentlessness. When I believe in something, I show up—consistently, without shortcuts, and with full commitment to the mission.
I’m not driven by adrenaline or hindered by burnout because I’m a true believer in what we’re building. I’ve made promises to my team—many of which have already come true—and I know more will follow if we stay focused, work hard, and always keep patient care as our guiding principle.
I also believe in passion. I love what I do. I love medicine. I love building something that puts patients and healthcare workers first. And when you combine passion with a clear sense of purpose, it becomes fuel.
As I always tell my team: you rest when the work is done. I’ve worked long hours, stayed late, and haven’t missed a single day of work since 2008—back when I was a third-year medical student. I regret nothing. Every moment, every shift, every patient has led me to this point—founding SMC and building something real with an incredible group of physicians.
My father always told me, “Those who do the work get the rewards.” That mindset has helped me stay grounded and committed—even when the path ahead wasn’t easy.
God is good. And I am deeply, deeply grateful.
