The Journey of Tranivia Custom Designs
My journey began in the 6th grade. I can vividly remember sketching fashion designs in class, never realizing that the gift God had planted in me at such a young age would one day flourish into beautiful custom designs and alterations.
My sewing journey started in my grandmother’s house with a tiny sewing machine gifted to me by a friend. I began cutting up clothing around the house and creating different swimwear designs. I am truly a testament to the process of crawling before you walk.
I am forever grateful for my tribe and community who believed in my vision and invested in my dream. My husband gifted me my first real sewing machine for Valentine’s Day, which allowed me to create my very first custom design. A swimsuit for my cousin.
From there, my modeling career began, and I launched my first official swimwear line. My coach, Mesh, encouraged me to step out on faith and start my business.
Confidence has always been one of my humble attributes, so Good Juice Swimwear was born to help plus-size beauties not only feel beautiful but look beautiful and confident as well. My friend Semaj invested in a photographer and videographer, while my baby sister and close friends modeled my swimwear collection.
What started as a swimwear line dedicated to confidence soon blossomed into something much greater—a passion for custom fashion design, alterations, and creating one-of-a-kind pieces for clients.
I had the honor of showcasing my swimwear line at the House of Mystic Fashion Show. My custom masks were contracted by the City of Miami and Florida International University and were featured in news outlets during COVID-19 training initiatives.
Since then, my custom designs have graced magazine covers, weddings, photoshoots, pageants, and countless special events.
One of my proudest accomplishments was being crowned Mrs. Florida Plus America 2024 and earning the title of 2nd Runner-Up at Miss Plus America, all while wearing garments and competition attire that I personally designed and created.
When it comes to alterations, consultations, and custom garment design, I strive to provide more than a service. I create an experience. At Tranivia Custom Designs, my goal is to ensure every client feels beautiful from the inside out.
I pray over my garments, and often with my clients, because sewing is about more than making someone look beautiful. It is about helping them embrace their beauty, confidence, purpose, and God-given uniqueness.
My vision is to continue building Tranivia Custom Designs into a premier design studio that offers custom fashion design, costume design, alterations, and sewing education.
I currently offer one-on-one sewing classes for all demographics, including children, beginners, intermediate learners, and advanced adults. I am also preparing to release a Beginner’s Sewing Guidebook to help aspiring designers and seamstresses start their own creative journeys.
My philosophy is simple: “Each one, teach one.” I am committed to helping both youth and adults become the best versions of themselves while preserving the art of sewing and empowering others through creativity.
What began as sketches in a classroom and a small sewing machine in my grandmother’s home has become a purpose-driven business. And this is only the beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey into fashion design has not been a smooth road.
I am a self-taught seamstress who started a business while simultaneously learning how to sew. There was no blueprint, no formal training, just the vision God gave me, the talent He placed in my hands, and clients who believed in me enough to push me beyond my comfort zone.
Many of my clients would come to me with ideas and designs that stretched my abilities. They saw something in me that I didn’t always see in myself. Even when I doubted whether I could create a particular garment, they trusted that I could make it happen. Their confidence in me challenged me to grow, and those challenges birthed new levels in my business.
The fear of failure, making mistakes, or damaging someone’s garment terrified me. However, the fear of remaining stagnant and never reaching my full potential pushed me to keep going. I learned that growth often happens on the other side of discomfort.
Along the way, I made mistakes. Some lessons were difficult, and some experiences tested my confidence. But every mistake became a learning opportunity, every setback became a lesson, and every challenge helped shape me into the business owner and designer I am today.
My journey has taught me that perfection isn’t what creates success, persistence does. Through faith, determination, and a willingness to keep learning, I have transformed obstacles into opportunities and dreams into reality.
Today, I can look back and appreciate every step of the process because those moments helped build not only my business but also my character, confidence, and purpose.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe we should always remain teachable. Learning is a lifelong journey, and with every lesson we gain, we have a responsibility to pour into others and help nurture their gifts and talents.
Even as a business owner, I understand the importance of continued growth and development. I still have a coach and mentor who challenge me, encourage me, and help me become a better entrepreneur, leader, and designer. No matter how much success I achieve, I never want to stop learning.

Through mentorship, accountability, leadership development, and sisterhood, we are committed to empowering women to walk confidently in their purpose and become the best versions of themselves.
