Inspiring Conversations with Siomara Rojas-Vallejo Lourdes Aguilar of Sparked Momentum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Siomara Rojas-Vallejo Lourdes Aguilar.

Hi Siomara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Sparked Momentum was created from both expertise and heart. We both spent many years working in the ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) field, supporting children with autism and other developmental or behavioral needs. Over time, we noticed something that really stayed with us: while ABA is a science, it also deeply involves the heart. Progress doesn’t just come from data and goals, it comes from trust, joy, creativity, and connection.

As mothers ourselves, we’ve both experienced the emotional side of seeking support for our children. That perspective changed everything for us. We didn’t just want to be “good clinicians”, we wanted to build something that truly felt safe, compassionate, and human for both families and providers.

Today, Sparked Momentum is more than a company, it’s a calling for what ABA should feel like. We are redefining care through deeper, trauma informed training, meaningful family partnership, and practices that honor each child’s individuality every step of the way. We work with children, teens, and young adults to help build communication, independence, emotional regulation, social skills, and skills that matter in real life, not just on paper.

Lourdes is a BCBA with over 20 years of experience supporting children and families. Her journey began as a mother searching for the right help for her own child, giving her both lived understanding and professional expertise. With degrees in Exceptional Student Education, Psychology, and Applied Behavior Analysis, and experience from RBT to BCaBA to BCBA, she leads with compassion, clarity, and deep family partnership. Her passion is empowering parents to feel informed, confident, and supported every step of the way.

Siomara is a BCBA with more than 15 years of experience and a belief that real growth begins with meaningful human connection. As a mom and a clinician, she understands both the emotional side of parenting and the science of supportive intervention. With a master’s degree in counseling, and experience across every level of ABA, she brings a thoughtful, respectful, and individualized approach to every child she serves. She is committed to care that centers emotional safety, collaboration, and honoring each child’s authentic voice and unique strengths.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Although the mission has always been clear, the road hasn’t always been smooth. Starting something new in the healthcare world, especially one centered on values instead of speed, hasn’t always been easy. We’ve faced everything from navigating insurance credentialing hurdles, which we are still working through with Medicaid, to shifting outdated mindsets about what therapy should look like. It’s also emotionally heavy work, when families are stressed, scared, or hopeful, they trust us with their most precious person.

But every challenge has deepened our purpose. Becoming business owners meant stepping into roles far beyond clinicians. We had to learn operations, systems, compliance, finances, and leadership while still showing up wholeheartedly for our clients and families. It was a steep learning curve, but every challenge pushed us to become stronger, more intentional, and more committed to building the kind of company we wished existed when we first started in the field. Each hard moment reminded us why we’re here: to build a place where families feel supported, not overwhelmed; where therapists are valued, not burned out; and where children are seen as whole humans, not checklists.

The road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been meaningful and we wouldn’t trade that for easy.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
ABA is a scientific, evidence-based approach that focuses on teaching meaningful skills and improving quality of life for individuals with autism or developmental delays. We work on real-world goals, things like communication, problem-solving, emotional regulation, executive functioning, independence, social skills, safety awareness, and daily routines.

What we are most proud of is the culture we have built. We created Sparked Momentum because we wanted a place where clinicians felt supported and valued, where families felt heard, and where children could grow authentically. Our team operates with warmth, curiosity, and genuine care, and that energy shows in the progress our clients make.

What sets us apart:
• We focus on whole-person development, not just compliance or performance.
• We invest heavily in training and mentoring RBTs, because they are the heart of the work.
• We collaborate closely with parents, schools, and community, as progress shouldn’t live in one room.
• We honor neurodiversity, our goal is empowerment, not “fixing.”

When families tell us their child feels happy, confident, understood, or braver, that’s our greatest achievement.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people are surprised to learn that ABA isn’t just therapy at a table. We might be in a grocery store practicing life skills, at a playground building social confidence, or in a kitchen learning independence through snacks and chores.

They’re also surprised to learn that this work has changed us just as much as it changes the children we serve. We celebrate tiny wins in life differently. A new word, trying a food, naming a feeling, tying a shoe, making a friend are our gold medals.

And on a personal note, we’re both moms, so our work isn’t just professional, it’s deeply personal. We don’t just teach families; we relate to them.
