Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Medina.
Hi Nicholas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in the hospitality industry when I was 15 years old. Over the years, I worked in countless restaurants and bars, gaining experience in nearly every position imaginable, dishwasher, busser, line cook, server, barback, bartender, and eventually manager.
For most of my career, my experience was rooted in the restaurant world. That changed when I was given an opportunity to work with Mena Catering. What began as bartending at their events quickly opened my eyes to a different side of hospitality and the events industry.
During my time with Mena, I founded House of Bars, a private bartending company built on the idea that the bar experience should be more than just serving drinks, it should be an integral part of the guest experience. While continuing to work with Mena, I slowly began building my own private clientele, one event at a time.
As House of Bars grew, I was eventually given the opportunity to help lead and develop Mena Catering’s cocktail program. Together, we helped elevate the role of cocktails within the catering industry, showcasing how a thoughtfully designed beverage program can enhance an event just as much as the food.
Today, House of Bars serves a diverse roster of private and corporate clients throughout South Florida. From intimate celebrations and milestone birthdays to weddings, luxury events, and brand activations, our team specializes in creating memorable bar experiences that bring people together. What started as a passion for hospitality has grown into a company dedicated to raising the standard for beverage service in the events industry.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a brand and a company around a specific vision is never easy. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a business owner is that no one will ever care about your business quite as much as you do. Because of that, finding people who share a similar level of passion, commitment, and pride in the work has been one of the keys to my success.
Operating a business in Miami comes with its own challenges, especially in the hospitality and events industry. The market is incredibly competitive and saturated, which means you can’t simply offer the same services as everyone else and expect to stand out. I’ve had to constantly find ways to separate House of Bars from the competition and show clients why our approach, attention to detail, and level of service are different.
The reality is that owning any business is difficult. There are long hours, setbacks, and plenty of obstacles along the way. But I truly believe that having a genuine passion for what you do and the drive to keep pushing forward puts you ahead of most people. When you care deeply about your craft and remain committed to your vision, success becomes much more attainable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
House of Bars is a private bartending and beverage catering company that specializes in weddings, corporate events, private parties, and brand activations. We create customized bar experiences through signature cocktails, professional staffing, creative menu design, and elevated hospitality.
What sets us apart is our focus on the guest experience. Anyone can serve a drink, but we believe the bar should be a memorable part of the event. We pay attention to the small details that make a big difference, from presentation and service to custom cocktails that reflect each client’s vision.
I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built and the relationships we’ve created with our clients and event partners. Most of our business comes from referrals and repeat clients, which is something we never take for granted.
At the end of the day, House of Bars is about more than cocktails. It’s about creating experiences, bringing people together, and delivering a level of hospitality that guests remember long after the event is over.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If your just starting out, i would suggestMy biggest piece of advice is to be patient and stay consistent. A lot of people start a business expecting overnight success, but most successful businesses are built over years of hard work, mistakes, and learning experience.I also wish I had known that not every opportunity is the right opportunity. Early on, I said yes to almost everything because I was trying to grow. Over time, I learned the importance of knowing your worth, setting boundaries, and focusing on the clients and projects that align with your vision. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to start before you feel ready. You’ll never have all the answers, and a lot of what it takes to run a business can only be learned through experience. Stay humble, keep learning, treat people well, and remember that your reputation is one of the most valuable assets you’ll ever have.
