Inspiring Conversations with Miriam Klein of Healing and Renewal Psychotherapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Klein.

Hi Miriam, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I find that most people that become therapists do so due to life challanges that they encountered in there life. That was the the case with me and what eventually led me to embark on my journey as a licensed clinical social worker. When I was in 9th grade I begin experiencing symptoms that nobody understood, at first they were not severe however as time went on they gradually became worse. From around age 13 until 23 years old I suffered a tremendous amount as I was undiagnosed with a serious medical condition that nobody could figure out. During those years what helped me get through this immense challange was the support of people around me, mainly a therapist and a mentor that held my hand through this challenging time. As a result of the support I received I then made it my mission to be a therapist so that I could hold space for others as it was done for me. At 23 years old I finally received a diagnosis of Cushings disease. Cushings disease is a disease where a benign tumor is usually found on the adrenal or pituitary gland and secretes cortisol. By the time I was diagnosed I had many symptoms ranging from tremendous hair loss, weight gain, cognitive changes, loss of perephiral vision and the list goes on. I had surgery done to remove the tumor, a successful surgery and my symptoms disappeared.
Often when I am sitting with clients I am able to put myself in there shoes as I fully understand what it is like to suffer. I may not have experienced exactly what they have, however when you have been through a painful challange you understand what it can feel like to be at the point of losing hope, and I can meet clients there because I have been there.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a therapist can be challanging at times because the work can get heavy, the storys that I hear are often painful, however the way that I work through it is beleiving that every individual that I work with is on a journey that was tailor made for them, and that along with the challange, they were given the capacity to handle what comes there way. Having gone through my own challanges and have made it to the other side myself, I often find myself holding hope for people when they can not hold it for themselves.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Healing and Renewal Psychotherapy?
I work with women who struggle with anxiety, depression, chronic pain and trauma. I am trained in both EMDR and Internal Family Systems. I see clients in Hollywood and Boca Raton, Florida. I am also licensed to see clients in NY as well. One of my passions is helping women feel confident, learn how to set boundaries and build a life that alligns with their values. I also care deeply about helping people heal their childhood wounds. I believe that childhood trauma that is not dealt with often creates adults that lack self love, self compassion and self confidence as a result of them not receiving what they needed when they were younger.
Both EMDR and IFS are modalities that help individuals process and heal develpmental trauma. In addition I also help people struggling with chronic pain. As a current chronic pain sufferer I can understand how lonely and misunderstood those with chronic pain feel. I help adults learn how to live with thier pain instead of fighting it, this helps minimize suffering when struggling with chronic pain.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is spending time with my older sisters. As the youngest of six girls my older sisters often took my out for ice cream or to the beach and spending time with them was always filled my cup. .
