Inspiring Conversations with Marissa Johnson of EEM JOHN FLORALS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Johnson

Hi Marissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been an entrepreneur. To be honest, my story really started in high school. My very first business was selling chips, candy, and juice out of my backpack in the hallways of Miami Northwestern Senior High School. Fast forward to college, still on my entrepreneurial journey, I developed an interest in photography. I began receiving bookings from customers to style and shoot photos for birthdays. I continued doing commencement photos and family portraits.

I moved back home to Miami in December 2016. I began brainstorming names for my photography company while working at Whole Foods Market and planning my business identity. I eventually came up with “Eem John.” Why “Eem John”? My name is Marissa Johnson, and at Whole Foods, there was another Marissa at the time, so everyone started calling me “MJ.” I thought, “Hmm… EmJay… Eem John!” And that’s how the name was born.

By Valentine’s Day 2017, we were flooded with flower orders at work. My boss asked me to assist the floral department, and I loved it. I started doing small arrangements for customers, but then discouragement came knocking again. Fast forward to September 2022, I began creating round rose bouquets for clients, which marked the start of Eem John Florals. To date, I have shipped over 100 rose bouquets all over the United States and hope to continue doing so.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
nothing about my journey has been smooth. one main struggle is funding Starting a business usually involves significant financial risk. Entrepreneurs often face cash flow issues, difficulty securing funding, or managing unexpected expenses and marketing . Discouragement comes when i feel like I am not seeing any results. I always have to go back to the drawing board and see what I can change.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about EEM JOHN FLORALS?
