Inspiring Conversations with Mackencia Valerie Pierre of Vavaa Satisfaction Beauty Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackencia Valerie Pierre.

Hi Mackencia Valerie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I came to the U.S. from Haiti when I was just 21 years old with my 18-month-old son, leaving my family behind. At the time, I was married to my son’s father. I used to do his little sister’s hair, and she always complimented my work but I never thought it could become a career. I had dreams of studying economics and becoming an accountant. Hair was never part of the plan.

I started doing hair at my dining room table, just for family and friends. But word spread, and I began to build a presence. After my divorce, I moved to West Palm Beach with big dreams. As a single mother, I wanted to open a salon for years but couldn’t afford it. Eventually, I found a space I could manage and renovated it little by little.

VAVAA Satisfaction Beauty Bar was born and in our first year, we were named the best salon in the city. Today, we’re the top-rated and most visited salon in West Palm Beach with over 2,500 clients and 650+ reviews on Google. We also have a strong presence across social media and continue to grow every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. When I went to cosmetology school, I was still married, but I didn’t speak English. I couldn’t even read full sentences, and I had to learn complex cosmetology terms just to pass my exams. I worked day and night, pushing myself, and still graduated as the top student in my class. Later, after my divorce, I moved to West Palm Beach with my son, no family, no friends, and nowhere to go. We lived in an RV for three years so I could save enough to open my salon. Every step of the way has been a fight, but I’ve never stopped learning, working, or believing in myself.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
VAVAA Satisfaction Beauty Bar is a top-rated salon in West Palm Beach specializing in natural hair care, protective styles, extension services, and high-quality braid work. We’re known for our attention to detail, professional environment, and the genuine care we give to every client.

What sets us apart is our consistency, structure, and high standards not just in the work we do, but how we run our business. We’ve served over 2,500 clients with more than 650 5-star Google reviews. I’m most proud that we’ve created a space where clients and stylists feel respected and empowered.

VAVAA isn’t just a salon it’s a brand built on excellence, discipline, and authenticity. We’re expanding into education and product development, and we’re here to change the beauty industry for the better.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Discipline. I believe talent can only take you so far, but discipline is what builds something lasting. I’ve had to stay consistent, focused, and committed even when I was tired, broke, or overwhelmed. I don’t wait to feel motivated I show up anyway. That’s what got me through language barriers, motherhood, starting over, and building my salon from the ground up. Discipline is the reason I’m still standing and still growing.
