Today we’d like to introduce you to Kareen Chung.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into psychotherapy wasn’t a straight path. I moved to England as an immigrant without a clear career direction, but I always knew I wanted my life to be driven by purpose. I just didn’t know what that purpose looked like yet.
Growing up, people naturally came to me for advice. Friends and family would often tell me that I was a good listener and had a way of helping people feel understood. I didn’t realize then that those qualities would eventually become my career.
I enrolled in a counselling course in the UK, and from the very beginning, I knew I had found something I genuinely loved. That led me to complete a degree in Counselling Psychology, followed by a Master’s in Integrative Psychotherapy.
After qualifying, I wanted the freedom to work in a way that reflected my values, so I built my own private practice, Heart To Heart Therapy. Today, I’m privileged to work with clients from around the world, helping people navigate grief, trauma, anxiety, relationships, and personal growth.
The journey wasn’t easy. There were moments when I battled racism, prejudice, imposter syndrome, and the feeling that I wasn’t clever enough to succeed. There were times I wanted to quit. But my faith kept me grounded, and my parents’ belief in me gave me the strength to keep going when I couldn’t always believe in myself.
Looking back, I’m grateful I persevered. Every challenge shaped the therapist I am today. My story has given me empathy, resilience, and a deep understanding that healing is possible—even when the path feels uncertain. That’s what I now have the privilege of helping others discover for themselves.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.
Moving from Jamaica to England meant starting over in many ways. I had to adapt to a new country, a different culture, and navigate life while trying to find my purpose. Along the way, I experienced racism, prejudice, and moments where I felt underestimated because of my background and accent. There were also times when I struggled with imposter syndrome, questioning whether I was intelligent enough or capable enough to become the therapist I dreamed of being.
Building a private practice brought another set of challenges. Starting a business from the ground up required resilience, patience, and a willingness to keep going even when things felt uncertain. There were moments when I wanted to quit because the road felt overwhelming.
But my faith kept me grounded, and my parents never stopped believing in me. Their encouragement, combined with my belief that God had called me to this work, gave me the strength to persevere.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change the journey. Every challenge has made me more compassionate, resilient, and better equipped to understand the people I work with. My experiences haven’t just shaped my career—they’ve shaped who I am as a therapist and as a person.
As you know, we’re big fans of Heart To Heart Therapy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Heart to Heart Therapy was born from my passion for helping people rediscover hope, healing, and purpose. I believe that every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued, and that genuine human connection is at the heart of meaningful change.
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I work with adults facing challenges such as anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, depression, and major life transitions. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor therapy to each individual because every person’s story, experiences, and needs are unique.
What sets Heart to Heart Therapy apart is the relationship I build with my clients. I strive to create a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where people feel safe enough to be vulnerable and courageous enough to grow. My clients often tell me that they feel genuinely understood and that therapy with me has helped them see themselves in a new light.
I’m incredibly proud that Heart to Heart Therapy has grown through trust, referrals, and the positive experiences of the people I’ve had the privilege to work with. Today, I support clients not only in the UK but across the world through online therapy, allowing me to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds while providing the same personalised level of care.
At its core, Heart to Heart Therapy is about more than overcoming problems—it’s about helping people build healthier relationships, discover their strengths, increase self-awareness, and create lives that feel meaningful and fulfilling. I want people to know that therapy isn’t about being “fixed.” It’s about being understood, supported, and empowered to become the healthiest version of yourself.
My hope is that anyone who comes to Heart to Heart Therapy leaves with greater self-compassion, renewed hope, and the confidence to move forward, knowing they don’t have to face life’s challenges alone.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Outside of therapy, I’m someone who deeply values connection. I love spending quality time with my family and friends, whether that’s sharing a meal, having meaningful conversations, travelling together, or simply enjoying each other’s company. My Christian faith is a big part of my life, and I value prayer, fellowship, and living with purpose. It keeps me grounded and reminds me of the importance of serving others with compassion and authenticity.
I’m also passionate about looking after my overall wellbeing. I regularly go to the gym, practise yoga, and believe that true health is about finding balance emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. I encourage my clients to pursue that same balance in their own lives.
Although I’m naturally an introvert, I do enjoy social settings and meeting new people—I just recharge best in quieter moments. I love travelling and experiencing different cultures, which has broadened my perspective and helped me connect with people from all walks of life.
At the end of the day, I’m simply someone who believes in people. I believe that no matter what someone has been through, healing and growth are always possible. It’s a privilege to walk alongside others as they discover their resilience, rediscover themselves, and create lives that feel more peaceful, meaningful, and fulfilling. I hope that when people meet me—whether in therapy or outside of it—they experience kindness, authenticity, and someone who genuinely cares.
