Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jessenia Collazo.

Hi Jessenia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I began my journey during the COVID-19 pandemic, joining my sister’s small business, “The Picnic Fairy & Co.” in January 2021. While maintaining a full-time litigation paralegal job, I dedicated my free time to preparing for and setting up picnics for The Picnic Fairy. I managed all picnics and inquiries for the South Florida region. These outdoor picnics were ideal for practicing social distancing and adhering to pandemic safety protocols. After a year, I resigned from my long-time paralegal role to work full-time with events and The Picnic Fairy.

Through this experience, I discovered my passion for event planning, drawing on my organizational skills and attention to detail cultivated as a paralegal. In May 2023, I leaped to establish my event planning and management business, RSVP Events Company, specializing in weddings and other special occasions. I oversee operations for The Picnic Fairy in South Florida while managing RSVP Events Company, successfully organizing several weddings and a memorable Sweet 16 Celebration.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a learning lesson along the way. Having never run a business of my own before, I embarked on a journey where I had to absorb a wealth of information. Working with the Picnic Fairy introduced me to the intricacies of events and the functioning of the industry.

Beyond the creative aspects, I delved into the business side, navigating through tax regulations and understanding all the legal steps necessary to operate a business successfully. Every challenge became an opportunity for growth, and I am grateful for the experience as it has shaped my understanding of the business landscape.

I hold a certification in Event Management from the School of Business at Florida Atlantic University. In addition to my certification, I bring thirteen years of experience as a paralegal, which significantly contributes to my effectiveness as an event planner. The skills and insights gained from my paralegal role greatly enhance my ability to excel in event management.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I appreciate most about our city is the incredible variety of restaurant options and the overall diversity it offers. As a big foodie, I love that we can satisfy any craving within just a few miles, making dining experiences truly enjoyable.

On the flip side, the aspect I find less enjoyable is the traffic. Although we welcome all the new Floridians joining our community, I could certainly do with fewer cars on the road. The traffic congestion can be challenging, but it’s a minor inconvenience compared to the vibrant culinary scene and cultural diversity that make our city special.
