Hi Jalaine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started out buying a home in West Palm Beach and after living there for several years we figured out that we were in a great spot for an opportunity to list this home on Airbnb and give it a shot as a short-term rental. After much trial and error, we finally got to a point where we streamlined our vacation rental processes and consistently getting 5-star reviews. After some research, we thought “hey, we struggled so much in the beginning, now that we know what works we can help other hosts launching and managing their properties” from there on we laser-focused on creating a system to help out other hosts with their vacation rentals. We know what works, and we wish that we could have had mentors at the beginning of our short-term rental journey.
I was born and raised in South Florida where I currently live with my husband and 2 year old daughter. As a Florida native, I know the best local spots for food, drinks, and entertainment in and around West Palm Beach. I worked in a corporate office for a property management company for 5 years until I decided to I start my own property management company, Spotlite Management, specializing in managing local short term rental homes.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We were off to a rocky start. When we started hosting, we had 100s of questions and basically had to learn the hard way, by trial and error. We didn’t fully know what we were getting ourselves into, filing for licensing, finding reliable vendors, and creating a beautiful aesthetic space for guests.
We wished we had mentors to guide us through the process. The struggles that we experienced at the beginning only fueled our motivation to start Spotlite Management so that we can take the stress that comes with launching a vacation rental and retaining a fully booked calendar.
As you know, we’re big fans of Spotlite Management. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Spotlite Management is a local family-owned vacation rental management company. We have 10+ years of experience, we learned all of the tricks of the trade, the hard way. We realized that there are limited options for vacation rental management without paying a bunch of fees. We are local to South Florida and we know what works, we know how to get the most bang for you buck and we know how to keep reservations fully booked.
We are extremely proud of being able to help our neighbors maximize their properties. We grew up in South Florida so not only are we able to help our neighbors but we are able to enrich our community with valuable tourism. We love nothing more than sharing our beautiful cities with people from around the world.
Since every host is different, we offer a tailored estimate for each host. For our new hosts, we provide free mentoring, listing design, even home design. For veteran hosts, we manage bookings, listing re-design, social media marketing, all while using our team of trusted vendors for cleanings and maintaining the vacation rental. The hosts hold all of the power, they can be as involved in the process as they want to be.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We are from West Palm Beach and honestly, it is paradise. WPB has that small-town charm but close enough to Miami if you want the big-city feel. We have such a rich mix of cultures and it’s reflected in the restaurants, the cafes, and bakeries. We have art museums and live music. In between the huge banyan trees and the warm beaches, I would say we really have it all here. The thing I like the least would be that sometimes, it really is too hot outside. The heat doesn’t bother me 90% of the time but sometimes the sun is a little disrespectful.
