Inspiring Conversations with Filbert Ip of Baoshi Food Hall + Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Filbert Ip

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In the summer of 2015, Filbert and his family unveiled Gold Marquess Fine Chinese Cuisine, marking the beginning of a culinary journey that would captivate their community for the next seven years. Specializing in beloved local staples like dim sum and Peking Duck, their establishment flourished, becoming a cherished part of the neighborhood’s dining scene.

However, as the pandemic swept the globe, change was inevitable. Filbert’s parents, after a lifetime of dedication to their craft, decided to retire, prompting a period of contemplation for Filbert himself. In the midst of uncertainty, he found clarity in his commitment to serving his community with exceptional cuisine.

Determined to honor his family’s legacy while embracing innovation, Filbert embarked on a transformation. The once-familiar space evolved into an extraordinary Asian food hall, named Baoshi. Recognizing a void in Pembroke Pines’ culinary landscape, Filbert envisioned a destination where authentic Asian fare and a sophisticated cocktail bar converged seamlessly.

With Baoshi, Filbert not only satisfies the craving for unparalleled flavors but also fosters a vibrant social hub. Each evening, guests are treated not only to sumptuous dishes but also to captivating entertainment. Moreover, Baoshi transcends mere dining; it’s a place where culinary enthusiasts can expand their skills through immersive classes in both cooking and mixology.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As we all understand, life’s journey is a tapestry woven with invaluable lessons and moments of growth. This inherent imperfection is what imbues each day with its unique beauty, regardless of the surprises it may hold.

Among the trials we’ve weathered, one of the most formidable was navigating the global shutdown. The upheaval it wrought upon the restaurant industry was unparalleled, presenting challenges of unprecedented magnitude. Nevertheless, I am grateful that we emerged resilient, proving that even in the face of adversity, there is always a path forward.

Throughout our endeavors, my team and I have encountered numerous challenges. Yet, these trials serve as beacons, guiding us along the path toward success. We remain steadfast in our conviction that every obstacle surmounted brings us closer to realizing our goals.

We’ve been impressed with Baoshi Food Hall + Bar, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
