Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Karen Lewis.
Hi Dr. Karen , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I didn’t enter real estate from a place of passion—at least not in the traditional sense. I got into the business because of a lack of finances. My best friend, Lisa Jones, had started in real estate, and like many people, I followed what was working around me. But what I discovered very quickly was that the passion had always been there—it was internal. I’ve always loved working with people, guiding them, and helping them move forward in life.
From a young age, I knew I was wired for business. At 16, I was already taking business classes with a clear vision that I would one day become an entrepreneur. Real estate simply became the vehicle.
Over the past 25 years, I’ve grown from agent to broker, to coach, and now to owner of a real estate company. But titles aren’t what define my journey—impact is. What truly shaped where I am today is my drive to help others. I’ve experienced both success and failure, and I made a decision early on that others wouldn’t have to learn the hard way if I could help it.
No one teaches you the “facts of real estate” the way you’re taught the facts of life. There’s a gap between getting licensed and truly building a business. I’ve made it my mission to bridge that gap through mentorship, coaching, and leadership.
Real estate is an incredibly rewarding industry. It’s not just about transactions—it’s about transformation. I have the privilege of helping people build wealth, create stability, and step into new chapters of their lives. And for me, that’s the true luxury of what I do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would love to say it’s been a smooth road, but that wouldn’t be the truth. What I can say with confidence is that it has been an incredibly rewarding one. One of my favorite phrases is: I love real estate—even on a bad day. Because at its core, my role is to solve problems. And in many cases, my clients are making important decisions with limited or less-than-ideal options. Guiding them through those moments is both the challenge and the privilege.
Like any long-term career, there have been defining struggles that shaped my growth. Early on, one of my biggest challenges was not fully leaning into the guidance around me—whether it was not following my broker’s direction as closely as I should have, or not listening to my accountant when it came to financial discipline. Those lessons, while difficult at the time, became foundational in how I now lead and operate my business.
Another challenge was navigating the emotional weight of the business. Real estate is not just transactional—it’s deeply personal. You’re dealing with people’s finances, families, and sometimes their most stressful life transitions. Learning how to remain strong, solution-focused, and composed during those moments was a skill I had to develop over time.
There were also seasons of inconsistency—times where production fluctuated, systems weren’t fully in place, and I had to rebuild structure and discipline. But those seasons taught me the importance of systems, accountability, and thinking like a true business owner, not just an agent.
Looking back, every challenge refined me. It strengthened my decision-making, deepened my leadership, and ultimately shaped the way I mentor and coach others today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is our approach. We don’t rely on traditional methods alone—we combine over 25 years of real estate experience with modern, AI-driven strategies to position homes in a way that attracts the right buyers and maximizes value. I am known as an AI Listing Strategist, and that means every listing is approached with intention—from pricing and presentation to marketing and negotiation. It’s not guesswork; it’s a structured, data-informed process.
We are especially known for our seller-focused experience, which I’ve developed into what I call the Private Seller Experience™. This is a high-touch, strategic system that ensures our clients are guided every step of the way—with clear communication, consistent updates, and a proactive plan designed to get results in today’s market.
Beyond serving clients, a major part of our business is developing agents. We don’t just bring agents into a brokerage—we train, coach, and equip them with real systems so they can produce consistently and build real careers. That’s something I’m deeply proud of from a brand perspective: we are not just closing transactions, we are building professionals.
What I want readers to know is that Align Right Realty K1 Group represents more than real estate—it represents structure, leadership, and a commitment to excellence. Whether you’re a homeowner looking to sell or an agent looking to grow, our focus is the same: strategy, execution, and results that move you forward.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is simple, yet foundational: people. My clients are always my top priority. I want them to feel a sense of comfort, confidence, and trust, knowing that they are not just another transaction—they are genuinely cared for and guided with intention. Real estate is one of the most important decisions people will make, and I take that responsibility seriously.
Equally important to me are the agents I lead and mentor. I am deeply committed to helping them build rewarding, sustainable careers in real estate. This is not just about closings—it’s about creating opportunities, developing confidence, and helping them step into their full potential as professionals and business owners.
What drives me is being part of both journeys. On one side, I’m helping clients move forward in their lives. On the other, I’m helping agents grow into the careers they once hoped for. Being able to serve at that level—where trust, growth, and results all come together—is what truly matters to me.
In closing
What has sustained me in my real estate journey is my faith and trust in God. I’m truly grateful for my husband, Pastor Ike Lewis Jr., who continues to walk this journey with me, and for the constant support of my mom and siblings. Real estate doesn’t stop at the office—it often comes home through conversations and situations—and having a strong, supportive foundation around me has made all the difference.
