Inspiring Conversations with Dr. Deeawn Roundtree of Roundtree Training & Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Deeawn Roundtree.

Hi Dr. Deeawn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After graduating from high school, I entered the workforce and was quickly met with the realities of navigating workplace dynamics. Like many young professionals, I faced challenges adjusting to varying personalities, expectations, and communication styles. At the time, I didn’t realize how valuable it would have been to have a coach or structured training program to help me transition into the professional world with confidence and clarity.

That early experience planted the seed for what would become my passion and purpose. Over the years, my professional journey—and the lessons I’ve learned along the way—have fueled my commitment to helping others avoid those same pitfalls. I now dedicate my work to equipping individuals and organizations with the emotional intelligence, leadership skills, and strategic tools they need to thrive.

My mission is to empower professionals to take ownership of their careers, increase job satisfaction, and achieve sustainable growth and success. Ultimately, I aim to be a leading provider of transformational professional development solutions for business owners, corporate teams, and individuals looking to elevate their performance, strengthen their teams, and drive organizational impact.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but every challenge has shaped who I am and how I serve others today. One of the biggest struggles early on was learning how to navigate professional environments without a roadmap. I often found myself trying to figure things out through trial and error—whether it was managing difficult personalities, communicating effectively, or understanding how to grow within an organization.

As I transitioned into leadership roles and entrepreneurship, I faced new challenges such as balancing purpose with profit, overcoming self-doubt, and building credibility in competitive spaces. There were moments of uncertainty, financial risk, and the constant need to adapt and evolve.

However, those obstacles became invaluable lessons. They taught me resilience, deepened my empathy, and strengthened my commitment to helping others succeed more intentionally and efficiently. I now use those experiences to create coaching programs and training solutions that provide the very support I once needed.

We’ve been impressed with Roundtree Training & Consulting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, “Roundtree Training & Consulting”, is rooted in a mission to empower individuals, teams, and organizations to lead with clarity, confidence, and purpose. We specialize in leadership development, executive coaching, emotional intelligence training, and workplace communication strategies, serving both corporate and nonprofit sectors, as well as faith-based organizations.

What sets us apart is our holistic approach. We don’t just focus on performance, we focus on the person. We believe that true leadership starts from within, and we integrate mindset, emotional intelligence, and values-based leadership into every program we deliver. Whether it’s through one-on-one coaching, customized workshops, or organizational training, our goal is to create lasting transformation, not just temporary motivation.

We are best known for helping high-potential professionals, especially women of color, navigate complex work environments, overcome workplace barriers, and rise into influential leadership roles. Our flagship programs, including *Black in the Boardroom* and *Ladies Lending the Ladder*, have become safe spaces for growth, strategy, and connection.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the authenticity and impact we bring to the table. Every client interaction reflects our commitment to excellence, empowerment, and integrity. I want readers to know that we don’t offer one-size-fits-all solutions. We listen, we tailor, and we deliver results that align with each client’s unique culture, goals, and challenges.

Whether you’re an individual seeking to grow professionally or an organization looking to build strong, emotionally intelligent leaders, we’re here to partner with you on that journey.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe risk is an inevitable part of growth. For me, taking risks isn’t about being reckless. It’s about having the courage to pursue purpose, even when the path isn’t guaranteed. In 2021, I took a major leap of faith by leaving the security of full-time employment to pursue entrepreneurship full-time. That decision required not only vision, but trustin myself, in my calling, and in God’s timing.

Shortly after, I purchased a franchise with the hope of expanding my impact. While it seemed like the right move on paper, I quickly realized it didn’t align with my core values. Making the decision to walk away from that investment was incredibly difficult, but it was also liberating. It reminded me that not every opportunity is meant to be pursued, and sometimes the boldest move is choosing integrity over convenience.

Despite that setback, I continued to build and scale *Roundtree Training & Consulting*, even through economic uncertainty. Each challenge has sharpened my focus and deepened my commitment to serving others with authenticity and excellence. I’ve learned that risk-taking isn’t just about betting on success, it’s about being willing to evolve, to pivot, and to stay aligned with your mission even when the outcome is uncertain.

So yes, I do consider myself a risk-taker, not because I chase uncertainty, but because I’m willing to act in faith, stay true to my values, and keep showing up even when the odds are unclear. That mindset has been essential in building a brand that’s both impactful and sustainable.
