
Today we’d like to introduce you to Danilo Dominguez Cruz.
Hi Danilo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Havana, Cuba in 1994. I’ve dreamt about becoming an entrepreneur and creating change in my community since I was a young boy. While we were living in Cuba, my parents told me they were thinking of emigrating to the United States. Their main goal for this transition was to give me a better education and future. It was a scary decision, but it had to be made. In 2008, we booked a flight to Miami and started a new life. The move was a tremendous advancement for us but a significant challenge at the same time. We had some walls to knock down along the way. Among other things, we had to adapt to a new country, language and culture. Nonetheless, we never gave up. Our determination to succeed surpassed every possible obstacle presented to us.
At the time, I was only 14 years old. A young teenager with an immense desire to be successful in his life. Knowing what poverty was like and having experienced lack of opportunities made me realize what I had in my hands in this country. The possibility to live the American dream and really have an impact on my community. It made me work hard, harder than I ever had before. I graduated top 5% in high school and got myself through college. Once I gathered all the knowledge I could from my academic experience, I wanted to put it to use in the real world.
I have always been driven and had an ambitious mentality. As a student, I had many jobs in different areas. From working in the cargo department in Home depot to selling high-end clothes in Harmont & Blaine, to working at the mobile department in Best Buy. These experiences really helped me find the path I wanted to take. Discovering my passion was essential for the development of my career. After those jobs, I had the desire to work in the corporate world and take my learning to the next level. I was hired by Amazon to work on a new project in which they were taking their own online branding products into popups stores all around the United States. After my valuable experience there, I transitioned to working for Hyatt Corporation. This was undoubtedly one of the best decisions I made throughout my career. I was able to meet and work with extraordinary people and truly understand how sales work. Nevertheless, it wasn’t enough for me. I knew finding my true passion was around the corner. I had the realization that feeling comfortable doesn’t necessarily mean that you are satisfied. I needed to fuel my hunger for success.
In August of 2019, I made one of the most important choices of my life. I was going into the real estate industry. By September of that same year, I was already licensee. That choice changed my life forever. I’ve finally found my purpose, one that puts a smile on my face. I felt the true meaning of the old saying, “You will never work single day in your life.” Because once you find your passion, that’s exactly what happens.
The beginning of this exciting part of my life as an entrepreneur wasn’t all flying colors. Real estate is one of the toughest industries to start in. Competition is fierce and you can easily get frustrated along the way. But I knew that in life, nothing good comes easy. If you truly want it, you must do whatever it takes to make it happen. That’s exactly the mentality I have always wanted to transmit not only to myself but also to my clients.
After working with a couple of major brokerages, I couldn’t find the right fit for me. My philosophy, being client-centered was extremely rare in the real estate industry. I had to learn the hard way. Door knocking, cold calling and long hours of analyzing my farming area to the best of my ability. Fortunately, everything paid off eventually. I started making deals and they were growing by the week. I thought to myself, “I’m making it in the industry within just six months.” While that was highly gratifying, it is a dangerous feeling if you do not stay focused enough on your goal. It is important not get comfortable and to always go back to the basics. To your number one goal when you started. That’s why I partnered up with Avanti way with my own Group, called DDC GROUP. The idea was to shape and guide my agents in a different way. I recognized what the industry was lacking and wanted to provide the best experience for our clients. Now, I have ten agents and an amazing partnership with Avanti way. I’m helping my agents achieve their full potential and fulfill their goals in Real Estate. I believe have become a great mentor to them. All of that at 27 years old. After all that hard work, I am very proud of what I have achieved and where we are headed.
Every now and then, I like to think back to that kid. That boy with a dream to leave a legacy and make a difference. I have only accomplished a small portion of my goals. But I can say without a doubt that I have started to pave my path. And I know in my heart that that fourteen-year-old boy, coming to this country to start a new life, with no idea what the future would bring, would be very proud of the person I have become.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I immigrated from Cuba, I had to learn a new culture, language and life philosophy. I explained that in my story. It’s a big part of me since my whole life has been a challenge.

Something that they will always get surprised about is the short amount of time I have been in the industry (about two years) due to the knowledge and experience I have gathered.
