Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Hyett
Hi Ann, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Habitat Hyett was created by myself, Ann and my brother Kyle. Mr. Hyett has resided in lovely South Beach for 15 years, and I joined Miaimi by way of Brooklyn NY 2 years ago and never looked back. With an affinity for all things vintage, we realized there was a lack of upscale vintage in the Miami area. We also knew we wanted to reside on the iconic Lincoln Road, given the history and versatile foot traffic.
Our vision for the store was that a local or tourist could stop in and find something one of a kind. From 1900s night gowns to vintage Miami tee shirts, our inventory is always changing and we are adamant about stocking items from local artists and publications.
With wanting to keep the Art Deco, South Beach spirit alive, we have resurrected the actual Rose Bar from the Delano Hotel as an in store fixture. On the rose bar, or the rose quartz run way, we have hosted many events. From figure drawing workshops to speed dating, we are always creating memories and looking for ways to bring the community together.
We are entering into our 16th month and are so grateful for the supportive vintage community in Miami and all of the tourists who find their way to Habitat Hyett.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a new, mom and pop business, finding a landlord who would lease to was quite the challenge. We aren’t a well known, corporate brand and we really had to prove ourselves. We are so grateful to have found a space that believes in small business and keeping the entrepreneur spirit alive.
We were regularly working 80 hours a week in the store, while also having to network and promote our new store at numerous vintage pop up markets around the city.
As a new business owner, you are always “on” but we wouldnt change it for the world.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are Habitat Hyett, South Beach’s premier vintage store. We specialize in vintage clothes, designer items, accessories, home goods, art, books and furniture from every era. Every item in our store is hand selected and goes through a rigorous screening process. We are known for our one of a kind jewelry and also our glamorous evening gowns. We have a whole rack of dresses perfect for your next wedding, gala, birthday or date night.
We just started consignment with the public, and we are loving helping you find new homes for pieces in your closet.
Our store is highly curated and designed to host events and intimate meetings.
What’s next?
As we are half way into our 2nd year open, we are aiming to host more in store events! We are also ramping up our online presence for customers not located in Miami. We meet so many international tourists and we want to provide them with the ability to be able to shop Habitat Hyett online.
