Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda MacMaster.
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I hold a Marketing Degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and initiated my career in Group Sales at the Marriott. My professional path took a significant turn when I became the Director of Marketing at the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL).
This role marked my entry into the nonprofit sector and provided invaluable experience in event management. It was during my tenure at MDPL that I joined the board of the Greater Miami Festivals and Events Association, a position I continue to hold to this day. One of MDPL’s notable annual events is the Art Deco Weekend, which draws over 300,000 visitors to Ocean Drive in Miami Beach each year.
After several fulfilling years at MDPL, I moved to Delray Beach and launched MacManda Media, through which I managed a wide range of clients and projects. During this period, Arts Garage, one of my significant clients, extended an offer for a full-time Director of Marketing position, which I accepted. I maintained this role until the birth of my first daughter, Fiona, subsequently resuming my focus on MacManda Media.
In 2020, I added the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce to my client roster. A collaboration with my friend Ethan resulted in a series of successful promotional campaigns for the Chamber that merged my marketing acumen with his photography skills. Sensing a potent synergy, Ethan and I co-founded MasterWing Creative Agency. Today, we lead a full-service marketing agency staffed by a dedicated team, headquartered in the Studio Baral building on Swinton Avenue in Delray Beach.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey of business growth is seldom straightforward; it comes with its unique complexities and obstacles. The excitement of acquiring new clients also heralds the imperative of scaling our staff to meet increased demand. Over time, our team has grown to include marketing strategists, web developers, graphic designers, social media managers, and a variety of other specialized roles. For Ethan and myself, this expansion poses a logistical balancing act. While managing the day-to-day intricacies of the business remains essential, so does cultivating relationships with new and existing clients, not to mention remaining directly involved in some of the project work ourselves.
An additional challenge we face—perhaps one of the most understated yet significant—is striking the right balance between work and life. In the rush and fervor of business growth, it’s easy to get completely absorbed, at the expense of personal time and well-being. We recognize that it’s not only important but essential for all team members, including ourselves, to step back when needed, spend meaningful time with family, and rejuvenate. This downtime doesn’t just benefit us personally; it refuels us creatively and strategically, enabling us to produce even more exceptional work when we return.
Despite these multifaceted challenges, our commitment to our vision has never wavered. We’re propelled by substantial goals and an unwavering work ethic. It’s profoundly rewarding to witness the tangible results of our collective hard work and to see our agency evolve into a larger, more impactful organization.
