Hi Wilmyne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi There! My name is Wilmyne Leger. I have wanted to be a Nurse Practitioner since I was in High School. I had the honor of being the Vice President of the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) program during my senior year in High School. In that program I had the privilege of taking healthcare courses which allowed me to shadow nurses in local hospitals, to be present in surgery rooms standing next to surgeons as they performed cardiac surgery, and to do my internship with the Community Health Nurse. After shadowing this Nurse Practitioner, I knew I had to go beyond being a Registered Nurse. I was a Registered Nurse for 13 years prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner because starting a family and conquering Parenthood took precedence to me. With every kid, I got another degree. I am currently a National Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who offers my services to prestige healthcare companies. I currently run an Otolaryngology office a couple of days a week and also work as a self-employed Contracted Nurse Practitioner under my business. I am the owner of Made to Thrive LLC and my Husband and I are getting ready to launch our very own medical practice called Solid Rock IV Drip. We will start accepting bookings in the next few weeks on the website SolidRockIVDrip.com. How did I get here? I am a wife to my High School Sweetheart, who is a Lieutenant Paramedic Fire Fighter. On top of my Husband’s crazy schedule I worked full time while being pregnant and having children in order to pursuit my career goals. I can honestly say I could not have done all of this without the strength of my faith in Jesus Christ, the support of my loving Husband, and my amazing family. Due to this supernatural empowerment to achieve the desires of my heart no matter what the world’s standards are, I hold a live virtual meeting called Sis Let’s Kingdom Talk (SLKT) to help empower women to invite Jesus in every area of their lives. SLKT’s purpose is to free women from the bondages of this world, to reach their full potential, and to most importantly remind them not to do life alone. We were all created with a purpose and a plan, we were made to thrive! I am also a mentor for the American Nurses Association, helping nurses push through the challenges of nursing school while balancing life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Considering I live in an era, where I am Blessed with the ability pursue my career goals and have a family, there were and continues to be some level of sacrifice. I sacrificed my sleep a lot. While my kids and Husband were awake, I was intentional about being 100 % present. I don’t think my kids saw me studying or working on everything I have going on until recently. Once they went to bed, I would crack open the books or the laptop. If my Husband was off, I would skip studying that night. I can’t say that I ever felt like giving up but there were some moments of “I don’t wanna” LOL! BUT not making my family a priority was not an option and not becoming a Healthcare Provider was also not an option. I just did what I had to do to be the best wife, Mother, daughter, and Sister I could be without neglecting my goals in the process.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When looking for a mentor, you should already have somewhat of an idea of what you want in life. If it is a $10 million dollar company, get with someone who has accomplished that goal and can give you true wisdom from their failures and victories.
Also, remember a mentor is not always meant to be your friend. It may be hard to hear the unfiltered truth about why you may be struggling in a specific area.
When networking, be yourself. Be open to hearing new ideas and be confident offering what has worked for you, big or small. Do not walk in a room feeling like you are the “lowest”. We all had or “have to” start somewhere, including those people you are inspired by. What has worked for me is not pretending I know something I don’t and not being afraid to ask questions to learn a new thing. Remember, you are already extraordinary, just walk in it.
