Hi Virlaine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Cloud 9 Events & Design officially began in 2023, but the heart behind it started even before that. Planning my own wedding sparked something in me creatively. I found myself falling in love with the design process, the details, and the way intentional decor could completely transform a space and create an unforgettable experience. What started as excitement around my own celebration slowly turned into a deeper passion.
At the same time, I was balancing a full-time career in healthcare as a nurse, building Cloud 9 during long shifts, late nights, and days off. In the beginning, I started with smaller events and gradually immersed myself in every part of the industry learning rentals, event logistics, coordination, design, styling, and the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating seamless experiences.
As Cloud 9 continued to grow, so did my vision. I realized I wasn’t just passionate about decorating spaces I loved creating experiences and transforming environments in a way that made people feel something. Over time, the business evolved from event decor into a brand centered around elevated event design, immersive details, and intentional celebrations.
Today, Cloud 9 Events & Design specializes in weddings and milestone events with a focus on luxury experiences and thoughtful design. While I’m still growing and evolving as a business owner, the heart behind Cloud 9 has remained the same: creating moments that leave people feeling like they’re truly on Cloud 9.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not! entrepreneurship has been one of the most rewarding but challenging thing I’ve ever done
Starting Cloud 9 I was working full-time as a nurse this meant I was balancing long shifts with building a business during late nights, weekends, and any free time I could find. There were many moments of exhaustion, self-doubt, and wondering if I was doing enough or growing fast enough. Building a business from the ground up meant wearing every hat! I was the designer, coordinator, marketer, accountant, content creator, customer service rep, and sometimes even delivery driver.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning the business side while also growing creatively. Pricing correctly, setting boundaries, understanding profitability, and realizing that beautiful design and a successful business are not always the same thing were major lessons for me. I’ve had moments where I underpriced myself, overextended myself, or felt pressure to prove myself in rooms where I was still growing.
I’ve also learned that comparison can be difficult. Social media often shows polished highlight reels while hiding the years of work, mistakes, and sacrifice happening behind the scenes. As a newer business owner, it can be easy to look around and wonder if you’re behind.
But every challenge has taught me something. Those struggles helped me become more intentional, more confident, and more focused on building a business with a strong foundation rather than rushing success. Looking back, I’m grateful for every lesson because they’ve shaped not just Cloud 9, but me as a person and business owner as well.

Cloud 9 Events & Design is a Southwest Florida-based event design company specializing in elevated weddings and milestone celebrations. We focus on creating intentional, immersive experiences that transform spaces and leave guests with lasting memories. While beautiful decor is important, our goal has always been much bigger than simply decorating a room, we believe great design should create a feeling.

Clients are trusting me during some of their biggest milestones whether its weddings, baby showers, birthdays, and once-in-a-lifetime celebrations. Being invited into those moments is something I never take lightly. Long after the flowers and decor are gone, what stays with me is knowing I was trusted to help bring someone’s vision and memories to life.

How do you think about happiness?
Outside of business, I’m happiest in simple moments: my faith, spending time with my husband, being around people I love, creating, dreaming bigger, and building a life that feels meaningful. I’ve learned that success isn’t just about achievements or milestones it’s about creating a life and experiences that genuinely bring joy and purpose.
