Hidden Gems: Meet Sidney Graybill of Women Above Power

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sidney Graybill.

Hi Sidney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into founding Women Above Power was born from one of the hardest seasons of my life.

In 2021, I went through a deeply traumatic domestic violence situation that completely changed the course of my life. At the time, I felt like everything I had built disappeared overnight. I experienced periods of instability and homelessness while trying to rebuild from the ground up. I made the difficult decision to leave and start over in Florida, carrying nothing but the belief that there had to be more for my life than survival.

What I didn’t realize then was that those experiences would eventually become the foundation for my purpose.

As I rebuilt my life, career, confidence, and sense of self, I started meeting other women who were silently carrying similar stories – women navigating abuse, mental health struggles, housing insecurity, financial hardship, and feeling completely alone in the process. I realized there were so many incredible organizations helping people, but many women simply didn’t know where to start or lacked the community and support system to take the next step forward.

That realization led me to create Women Above Power.

What started as a vision rooted in pain transformed into a growing nonprofit focused on helping women and families access support, resources, empowerment, and community. Today, Women Above Power focuses on five pillars: mental health and healing, housing and stability, career and financial empowerment, childcare and family support, and food and wellness access.

At the same time, I continued building my professional career in corporate leadership and technology at PepsiCo, while also growing other entrepreneurial ventures like Dual Drinks. Balancing all of these worlds has shown me that resilience and reinvention are possible, even after life completely knocks you down.

Looking back, I truly believe my lowest moments became the catalyst for the work I’m doing now. Women Above Power is more than an organization to me – it’s proof that healing can create impact, and that sometimes your purpose is found in the very thing you once had to survive.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes the journey meaningful.

One of the biggest struggles was rebuilding my life after experiencing domestic violence in 2021. Leaving that situation meant walking away from stability, familiarity, and the life I thought I was going to have. There were moments where I felt completely lost and uncertain about what came next. Starting over emotionally, financially, and mentally was incredibly difficult, especially while trying to heal at the same time.

Another challenge was learning how to navigate survival while still believing in bigger dreams. There’s a version of rebuilding that people don’t often talk about – trying to stay strong while carrying trauma, balancing work and responsibilities while still processing everything internally. I had to learn resilience in real time.

Building Women Above Power also came with its own challenges. Starting a nonprofit from the ground up means wearing many hats – building partnerships, finding resources, creating trust in the community, fundraising, organizing events, and balancing it all alongside my corporate career and entrepreneurial ventures. There were moments where it felt overwhelming, especially because the mission is so personal to me.

But honestly, every struggle reinforced why this work matters.

The women we support are often navigating some of the hardest moments of their lives, and because I’ve lived through my own version of that darkness, I’m able to approach this work with empathy, understanding, and authenticity. The road hasn’t been easy, but every obstacle shaped the leader, advocate, and founder I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Women Above Power?
Women Above Power is a nonprofit organization focused on helping women and families rebuild, heal, and grow through accessible support, community, and empowerment. A large part of our mission centers around supporting survivors of domestic violence and individuals overcoming trauma, housing instability, mental health challenges, and major life transitions. Our goal is to help people move beyond survival and step into stability, confidence, and long-term growth.
What makes Women Above Power different is that we are not just focused on awareness — we focus on connection, action, and real community impact. We work to bridge the gap between individuals in need and the resources, organizations, and opportunities that can genuinely help change their lives. Many women leaving abusive situations or navigating hardship feel isolated and unsure where to begin, and we strive to become a trusted starting point and support system for that journey.
Our work centers around five core pillars: mental health and healing, housing and stability, career and financial empowerment, childcare and family support, and food and wellness access. Through partnerships, support groups, workshops, networking events, outreach initiatives, and resource referrals, we create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to rebuild.
One thing I’m especially proud of is the community we’ve built in such a short amount of time. Women Above Power has become a network of individuals, partners, and leaders who genuinely care about helping others rise. We’ve created meaningful collaborations with local organizations, hosted impact-driven events, and built an environment where vulnerability is met with compassion instead of judgment.
I’m also proud that this organization was built from lived experience. Women Above Power was created after surviving domestic violence and rebuilding my own life from the ground up. Because of that, everything we do is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and understanding. We know how powerful it can be when someone simply feels supported, believed in, and connected to opportunity.
More than anything, I want readers to know that Women Above Power is a safe and welcoming space for anyone seeking healing, growth, resources, or community. No matter where someone is in their journey, we want them to know they are not alone and that their hardest chapter does not have to define the rest of their story.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
There are so many ways people can get involved with Women Above Power, and one of the most beautiful parts of this journey has been seeing how many individuals and organizations genuinely want to make a difference in their communities.

People can support us by volunteering, becoming mentors, donating resources, partnering on events or workshops, sponsoring initiatives, or simply helping us spread awareness about our mission. We’re always looking to collaborate with local businesses, nonprofits, mental health advocates, wellness professionals, community leaders, and individuals who are passionate about empowering others and creating meaningful impact.

We also welcome partnerships for educational workshops, fundraising events, networking experiences, resource drives, and survivor support initiatives, especially those focused on domestic violence awareness, mental health, career development, and community wellness.

For individuals who may need support themselves, we encourage them to connect with us through our website and social platforms. Whether someone is looking for resources, community, healing, or simply a safe space to start over, we want people to know they do not have to navigate difficult seasons alone.

At the end of the day, Women Above Power is built on community. Every collaboration, conversation, volunteer, donor, and supporter helps us continue creating spaces where people feel empowered, seen, and supported.
