Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Gilman.
Hi Scott, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After years of working in the tech industry, I knew it was time for a change. My wife, Debbie, was working in adult education and she was up for trying something totally different as well. So, after some soul searching, we took the plunge and became small business owners of Plaster Carousel, a painting studio located in Coral Springs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are many pros to owning your own business and being your own boss but there are many challenges as well. One of the biggest obstacles we overcame was the COVID pandemic. We needed to switch our business model quickly and everyone in the family pitched in, including our two children. Within a couple of days, we pivoted from an in-studio painting experience to an online store with a local delivery service.
Throughout that difficult time, customers continued to support us by ordering To-Go Paint Kits that we would deliver to their doorsteps the same day. Looking back, it was a pretty wild time, but remaining flexible and willing to make adjustments to align with our customers’ needs played a major role in being able to overcome this challenge.

We pride ourselves on being open and welcoming to everyone in the community. We frequently receive positive feedback about our inclusive environment and the warm, friendly “vibe” that people feel when they walk in the door. Having been in the community since 1983, we often have groups of painters that span three and sometimes four generations of family members. There aren’t too many places around anymore where people can put their phones down, unplug, and relax while spending quality time with each other. This is the experience we want for all customers who visit Plaster Carousel, and we take great pride in providing a space where you can just slow down a bit and enjoy the moment.

We are fortunate to have an amazing family that always remains supportive and encouraging. Knowing you have people that truly care about you can make all the difference in the world.

- Our prices range from $15-$65 with the average piece falling in the $20-$25 range.
- Bring your own brushes or grab a variety pack of 10 brushes from us for $5. The brushes are yours to keep so you can reuse them at future studio visits.
- Paint, studio time, finishing gloss, glitter, and aprons are included at no additional cost.
