Hidden Gems: Meet Monica Mola of Monica Mola Casting “MMC”

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Mola.

Hi Monica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Mónica Mola, and I’m a Casting Director.

First things first, I was born in Colombia and raised in Venezuela.

I graduated with a degree in Advertising and have built a career as a Casting Director, working on television series, reality shows, and commercial projects.

I started as a production assistant at a production company, and little by little, I worked in almost every department, until I landed in Casting.

And from day one, I knew: this is it. This is where I belong.

Back then, Venezuela was the center of advertising in the region. Many commercials were produced there for different countries and markets, from Mexico to Argentina, and that gave me the chance to work on big, exciting productions.

A few years later, I became a freelancer. While still living in Venezuela, I had the opportunity to collaborate with several production companies, casting for the local market and for commercials made for both the general and Hispanic markets in the U.S.

In 2000, I moved to Miami and started working immediately, within my first month in the U.S.

My first project was a campaign filmed by 35 Advertising, the production company of my dear friends Salvador Bonet and Dominique Cassuto, who gave me my very first opportunity in this country. With their support and encouragement, I soon founded my own casting company, originally called Broadcasting Productions, which has since evolved into MMC, Mónica Mola Casting.

Soon after, I worked on another commercial with a local production company that had already been sending me casting jobs while I was still in Venezuela.
And from that moment on, the work never stopped. People kept recommending me, and my name began to spread by word of mouth.

And now, it’s been over 20 years!

Throughout the years, I’ve worked on countless advertising projects, not only for the Hispanic and general U.S. markets, but also for Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

I’ve also done casting for reality shows, format shows, short films, and now for series on streaming platforms, a new and exciting market that’s growing fast.

And I’m proud to say the very first TV series I cast won an Emmy Award!

We received it just two months ago at a beautiful ceremony at CBS Television City in Los Angeles.

That casting was a real challenge.
The project required actors from many different countries and age groups, and the expectations from the Director and Executive Producers were very high.

The result was incredible!

We cast across several countries, and not only did we meet their expectations, but we also won the Emmy! And it was the only Spanish-language series to win this year!

And that’s me! My journey and my career as a Casting Director.

A path full of passion, hard work, and love for what I do.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not exactly!

At the beginning, there was the language barrier, stepping into a market where few people knew who I was, and of course, the time it takes to build a reputation and establish myself.
But the opportunity was there, it was just a matter of seizing it, putting in the work, doing things the right way, and finding my place in the industry.

Little by little, word started to spread about the quality of my work, and that made all the difference.

I truly believe that taking the risk, staying committed, and making the most of every opportunity paid off sooner than I expected. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My company, Monica Mola Casting, is a casting company that finds the best talent for TV commercials, reality shows, films, and streaming series.

With years of experience in the industry, we’re known for our sharp eye for talent and our deep understanding of what makes a performance resonate with an audience.

What truly sets us apart is our commitment to quality over quantity.
We don’t just send talent, we carefully select the right people for each role, ensuring they align with the creative vision of every project.
We believe in building real, honest performances that bring stories to life.

An extra advantage I have is being married to Charlie Cartaya, a film and television Director who’s also very critical and has a great eye for actors. His perspective constantly sharpens mine and helps me push for excellence in every project.

We’re proud to have worked across different countries, languages, and platforms, always delivering with passion, precision, and heart.
Our clients trust us because we listen, we care, and we deliver, no matter the size or complexity of the production.

What we want readers to know is simple: “Monica Mola Casting” is more than a casting company.
We’re creative partners who help shape the success of your project from the very first frame.

Any big plans?
So far, I’ve truly enjoyed my career as a Casting Director!
It has given me the chance to meet incredible people and fall in love with every project I’ve worked on.

I’ve enjoyed working under pressure, especially when casting commercials where everything needs to happen fast, even finding talent overnight.
Sometimes it feels like I’m hunting for a Prince Charming, or a Genie like Aladdin’s, or Indigenous actors who speak perfectly and act flawlessly.
I love those challenges, and I always manage to find exactly what I’m looking for, even if it’s under a rock!

I never imagined I would make it to Hollywood and even win an Emmy!
For a little girl from Barranquilla who once dreamed big but never expected to receive one of the highest honors in the industry, this is a proud moment.
I can confidently say to myself, “You did it! You’ve done an amazing job, and this award is your well-deserved recognition.

From here on, I choose to continue doing what I love, but now without the pressure I once placed on myself.
With the experience I’ve gained, I’m ready to embrace all the wonderful opportunities life still has in store.

Who knows? Maybe an Oscar will be the next milestone on this incredible journey!

Right now, we’re in talks and negotiations for a feature film and a new TV series, projects we hope will come to life soon.

I’ve had my casting company for over 20 years, and I’m still going strong—better than ever!

Finally, I’d like to share a message for the new generation getting started in this industry:
Believe in yourselves, work with passion, strive for perfection, and always be your own toughest critic.
Create quality work, stay true to who you are, and keep building the best version of yourself—and your reputation.
I promise you, the opportunities will come.
I wish everyone success in this field.
Enjoy your journey, because it’s filled with wonderful experiences!
