Hidden Gems: Meet Melissa Mederos of Pryme Production

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Mederos.

Hi Melissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I feel I’ve been a walking creative outlet since I was a kid. Music, dance, photography — anything that made me feel something instantly had my heart. In 4th grade, my music teacher played an old Cab Calloway cartoon and I started crying in class. When he asked why, all I could say was, “I don’t know… the music just made me cry.” That was my first clue I was wired a little differently.

Not long after, I discovered photography. I stole my dad’s camcorder at every family gathering and somehow became the designated friend-with-the-camera. (Some would call it blackmail material. I call it an archive of memories.)

By high school, I got my first real camera — a Sony Cybershot — after saving up and convincing my dad to go half with me. We called it a “shared camera,” but we both knew it was going to live in my bag.

Then came Instagram. My sister burst into my room one day asking what my username would be. At the time I had no idea what Instagram even was, but once I joined, it opened up a whole new world. I started going to photo meets around Miami, exploring the city with other creatives, learning street photography, meeting people, and shooting everything from light trails to rooftops. Somewhere along the way, people started calling me Magic City Mel. So naturally, I changed my handle — and it’s stuck with me ever since.

At the same time, I was working for an interior design firm and would travel to stage hotels in the islands. I’d bring my camera, shoot the properties on the side to use for our meetings with the owners, CEO, COO’s, and more. Some of my landscape images ended up being purchased as artwork for the hotels. That was my “hold on… maybe I can make money doing this” moment.

In 2017, I finally took the leap into photography full-time. I didn’t have an LLC, a business name, or even a clue how to put a contract together, just a camera, a dream, and a whole lot of naïveté. It was the best and scariest decision ever because it forced me to learn fast and grow even faster. About a year in, I landed my first big job, and that’s when everything really started rolling. The whole “fake it till you make it” era? I lived it.

Now, I work mostly B2B shooting architecture, interiors, products, and people. Architecture and design are my bread and butter, but I’ve recently fallen into the fitness world, and I’m loving it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth road? Definitely not, more like a scenic route with potholes.

When I started, I knew how to take a photo… and that was about it. Running a business was a whole different beast. I had to learn everything, from taxes to marketing, how to write contracts, how to negotiate, how to communicate with the actual decision-makers, and how to confidently price my work without shrinking into myself.

There were moments where I questioned what I was doing, moments where I definitely undercharged, and moments where I learned lessons the hard way. But all of those struggles forced me to grow up fast as a business owner, not just a creative.

It wasn’t smooth, but it shaped me. And honestly, the bumps taught me way more than a straight road ever could.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pryme Production?
My business is Pryme Production. We are a boutique commercial photography company that somehow grew into a full-blown B2B operation serving some incredible mid- to high-level industries.

I work with hospitality groups, retail brands, interior designers, architects, live event organizers, and even professional athletes. If it needs to look elevated, intentional, and on-brand, that’s where I come in.

What I do goes way beyond clicking a shutter. I build visual storyboards, create treatments, plan concepts, and manage the entire production from start to finish. I’m talking everything — creative direction, shoot logistics, client communication, budgeting, post-production, and making sure the whole thing feels seamless for the client.

What sets me apart is that I’m truly hands-on from beginning to end. I’m not the photographer who shows up, snaps a few photos, and disappears. I’m involved in every detail because I want the final images to feel like the client’s brand, polished, intentional, and personality-driven. My clients often say I make the process easy, even fun, which is honestly one of the things I’m most proud of.

Brand-wise, I’m proud that Pryme Production has its own recognizable style: clean, modern, story-driven imagery with a Miami edge. And I’m proud that the company has grown solely through relationships, trust, and the work speaking for itself.

If readers take anything away, it’s this: I’m here to elevate brands through visuals that actually move people. Whether it’s architecture, fitness, products, or interiors, my goal is always the same — make the client look like the best version of themselves and help them stand out in a crowded market.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by reaching out directly through my website, Instagram, or via email — I’m super responsive and always open to new creative collaborations. Whether it’s a brand needing fresh visuals, an interior designer wanting to document a project, or a company looking to elevate their marketing, I love being part of projects that have intention and personality behind them, and I’m always down for a challenge.

Supporting me can be as simple as sharing my work, recommending me to someone who might need a photographer, or just following along on my journey. Every referral and every connection truly matters in a creative business like mine.
