Hi Mary, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a beauty queen, entrepreneur, and philanthropist born and raised in Manila, Philippines. This November 2024 marks my 12th year living in the USA. For the past six years, I’ve been based in Miami, where I’ve established a self-made real career in real estate, earning multiple top producer awards and working with a diverse clientele, from everyday individuals to ultra-high-net-worth clients on various real estate transactions and developments.
Throughout my career, I dedicated myself to exceeding client expectations, but this relentless drive led to burnout and stress, causing me to overlook my own health and happiness. Despite my commitment to others, I realized I needed to find a way to enjoy life more, feel valued, and make my efforts worthwhile. As a self-proclaimed spa snob who has experienced unique treatments worldwide, I found it challenging to find that same level of luxury and care in Florida.
So when one of my developer clients presented the idea that, as an Asian woman, I should open a nail salon, I took it as an opportunity to build my spa snob dreams.
That’s when the idea for The Chic Beauty Bar, now branded as The Chic Beauty came to life. I envisioned a place where people could indulge in luxury and enjoy premium holistic and scientifically proven treatments for nails, face, body, and overall health. To truly get their money and time’s worth by having almost every beauty and wellness service in one chic house. Today, we have expanded our services from beauty to wellness and regenerative medicine to truly empower our client’s journey to health and vitality through TCB wellness and regenerative medicine.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Following your passion, turning visions into reality, and the entrepreneurial road is always challenging. It may appear fabulous on the outside, but it takes a lot inner and physical work, you have to be completely obsessed with the vision or forget about it! And once you think you’ve figured it out, a new challenge appears.
Hiring the right team members has been the biggest struggle. While I’ve always wanted to provide opportunities for many, I’ve also experience many bad hires which taught me valuable lessons. It helped me become more selective in giving the right opportunities to the right people.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Chic Beauty is a full-service nails and wellness spa with locations in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
We are the first to provide the once-under-the-radar Apres Gel X extensions, Builder in a bottle Manis which are nontoxic and cruelty free in Fort Lauderdale’s chicest setting.
Our commitment to beauty, health, and wellness has led us to expand to a second Chic location in Miami. This new Chic sanctuary is a testament to our success and dedication to providing a comprehensive range of services.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think the most significant risk I have always taken has been following my heart. It led me to a lot of painful experiences at first, but it also made me resilient and powerful in my own ways, leading me to the most beautiful experiences around the globe, unforgettable memories, many lessons learned in life and business, the opportunities I’ve created along the way and most importantly, living the incredible life I get to live now. It’s far from perfect, but it’s mine. I make it beautiful with whatever I have; I can share it with others, and I love it.
Over time, I’ve learned that heart conscience is essential in entrepreneurship. You have to go beyond your personal why and clarify your purpose and why you and your business exist.
