Today we’d like to introduce you to Luigi Gherardi
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My grandfather was the founder of Sartoria Gherardi in Napoli ( Italy). I’m third generation tailor, and since I was a little kid, I’ve always had a big passion for tailoring. I remember, my friends wanting to go play soccer and instead I just wanted to go to the tailoring to learn everything. I wanted to observe how the master tailors would cut a jacket, how they sewn the canvas inside or how they would do a buttonhole. In 2011 I decided to export our family brand to the US. Today it’s a dream come true seeing people here wearing our bespoke garments.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
At the beginning I didn’t have the clientele and it’s been very challenging. I was doing any other job to pursue my dream. From bartender to waiter at night just to be able to continue doing what I’ve always had dreamed of. I also was going to English classes to learn the language. It hasn’t been easy but absolutely worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Sartoria Gherardi. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in bespoke suits, shirts, blazers, pants, ceremonial suits, trench coats. When you look good, you feel good. Bespoke tailoring brings a man to his full potential, and allows him to focus on the task at hand, knowing he’s presenting his best self to the audience.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
In general to never give up on your dreams, find something you’re passionate about and no matter how many other jobs you have to work, seminars, classes, one day it will pay off.
