Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2002, I visited South Florida for spring break, and that trip changed the course of my life—I never looked back. Originally from the small town of Green City, Missouri, with a population of just 600, I came from a tight-knit community where everyone knew each other. Although I fell in love with the vibrant energy of Miami, I still find myself missing the close connections and Midwest values I grew up with.
My interest in real estate began soon after I moved to Florida, prompting me to pursue my real estate license. However, it didn’t take long for me to realize that being a realtor wasn’t the right fit for me. Instead, I found myself drawn to the complexities of title insurance, a field that offers far more of the problem-solving challenges that I truly enjoy. My journey in title insurance started with an internship at the very company I had worked with during my time as a realtor. That year of hands-on experience was invaluable, and after obtaining my license, I continued working there until 2014, when I took a leap of faith and founded Florida Title & Trust.
I often joke that the things realtors love about the industry are the very aspects I dislike, and the things they dislike, I love. This dynamic creates a well-balanced relationship, as I am able to offer a level of support that many title companies cannot, largely due to my experience on the other side of the transaction. This dual understanding has shaped my approach and is a cornerstone of the team I’ve built. At the heart of Florida Title & Trust is our incredible team of employees, who bring passion and dedication to everything we do. They are, without a doubt, the driving force behind the company’s success.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a mother is my most important and fulfilling role in life. For many years, I navigated the challenges of single motherhood. Without the support of my family nearby, balancing work, parenting, and my personal life was incredibly difficult. I had to pass on many opportunities for professional growth so I could prioritize my children. Since I’m not originally from Miami, building relationships was crucial to laying the foundation for a successful business, but I often found myself apologizing for not meeting expectations in both my personal and professional life.
When my husband became a part of our family and joined the company, I was able to shift more focus toward our business growth. Interestingly, the COVID-19 pandemic made this balancing act a bit easier. No longer did I need to apologize for my kids being present in the background during calls. This shift allowed me to continue growing our business while still embracing my most important role as a mother.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Florida Title & Trust is a highly regarded, award-winning title insurance company specializing in both residential and commercial real estate transactions throughout Florida. Throughout my career, I have been recognized numerous times for preventing fraudulent closings. Most recently, I was featured on Channels 7, 6, and 10 for uncovering a deepfake AI fraud scheme that could have cost a buyer thousands of dollars.
Collaboration is central to our work. In fact, I was one of the first online notaries in South Florida and played a key role in helping other title companies complete their transactions during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Many of my competitors have turned to me for assistance with closings involving down payment assistance programs and title curative issues, areas in which I am considered an expert. It is with great pleasure that we help others grow and succeed.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I have a deep passion for reading—or more accurately, listening to—self-improvement books. Audiobooks have become my go-to method for absorbing valuable insights, allowing me to multitask while engaging with the material. One of my all-time favorites is Sell Yourself by Dr. Cindy McGovern, which offers practical strategies on personal branding and self-promotion. Another book that had a profound impact on me is the autobiography of Mary Kay Ash.
It may seem surprising, but Mary Kay founded an enormously successful and highly profitable company during a time when societal norms dictated that women were not expected to pursue careers, let alone lead businesses. She faced significant obstacles and adversity, but her resilience and determination enabled her to build a lasting legacy. Her story serves as an inspiring reminder that with persistence and vision, it’s possible to overcome even the most daunting challenges.
