Today we’d like to introduce you to Larnett Glenn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am the owner of SKINN MIA, a boutique skincare spa in the heart of Miami Beach. I started on this journey 6 years ago when I decided I wanted to retire from my corporate job and start a career in a new industry. I have been a licensed Cosmetologist for over 40 years and I love all things beauty. So I knew I wanted to do something in the beauty industry. I thought about what I was personally passionate about and realized it was skincare. Healthy glowing skin. I spent two years taking classes, doing research, speaking with doctors, dermatologists, and other industry experts, looking at trends on social media and constantly bugging friends and family about their skincare concerns. Then I went to Esthetician School and got my license in the State of Florida.
By the time I was licensed in Florida, I had done so much research and attended so many seminars that I felt confident enough to immediately open my first location. It’s a small business so successes and failures are my business partners. But they are also what give me the experience and knowledge to continue to grow. One thing I can say is that the success of my business has been attributed to client referrals and my network of women business owners who always have my back. If I can offer any advice to someone who wants to start a small business it would be to find a mentor. Mine is Betty Behar, who owns Chewing Gum Boutique. She is a source of so much information that has helped me market and grow my business. She is also the source of most of my referrals.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, I started my business during a pandemic so, if that doesn’t answer your question…. Haha. But, honestly no. It has not been a smooth road.
I don’t think any small business owner can say they had a smooth road in starting a business. My biggest struggles have been building a loyal clientele and in the beginning, just finding a space that worked for my business. But, right now things are going pretty smoothly.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known as the Queen of Glowing Skin. For me, it’s not about gimmicks and product sales. I focus on getting to the root of my clients’ skincare issues. Whether it’s discussing proper diet, or creating a skincare routine that works for their lifestyle it all starts with clean pores.
Every new facial client leaves with a smile because they can see the difference after just one visit. I get texts and calls every day from people who say “I saw your client at the park and I had to stop her and ask what she uses to make her skin look like that. She said it’s not the product, it’s you.” Those are my success stories.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I would love to share my knowledge of skincare with young people before they develop bad skincare habits. If anyone has a charity, non-profit, or school group that works with pre-teens or teens I would be happy to give a presentation.
Other people I would like to collaborate with are photographers who are building a portfolio. In today’s world, we all need content to keep our social media updated. Other possible collaborators modeling agencies, Botox and other injection specialists, dermatologists, and organizations who work with seniors.
There are so many more I can think of but, to start that’s just a few.
