Today we’d like to introduce you to Karissa Daniel.
Hi Karissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a child, I was always drawn to art. I enjoyed sketching what I observed and experimenting with acrylic and watercolour paints. As I got older, I decided to pursue a different field; however, I never lost my passion for creativity and artistic expression. Over time, I developed a strong interest in decorating, which eventually inspired me to start exploring event décor and design.
KD Events Décor began about three years ago from my passion for art, decorating, and creative expression. I wanted to explore new ways to showcase my creativity, so I decided to experiment with balloon décor and event styling. At first, I was unsure about working with balloons and did not know what to expect, but once I started creating designs, I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed it.
As I continued practicing and learning new techniques, my confidence and skills grew. Over time, I began creating balloon backdrops and floral décor for different occasions and celebrations, allowing me to turn my creativity into a business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. Like many small businesses, there were challenges along the way, especially in the beginning. One of the biggest struggles was learning new techniques and building confidence in my work while trying to stand out in a competitive industry. There were also moments of self-doubt and uncertainty about whether my ideas and creativity would be successful. Managing time, balancing costs, and meeting clients’ expectations were other challenges I had to learn to handle. However, each obstacle became a learning experience that helped me grow both personally and professionally, and it motivated me to continue improving my skills and expanding my creativity.

At KD Events Decor, I specialize in creating balloon backdrops and floral decor for a variety of occasions and celebrations. My work focuses on bringing clients’ ideas to life through creative and personalized designs that help make each event feel unique and memorable. I enjoy experimenting with different themes, colour combinations, and styles to create décor that reflects both the client’s vision and my own artistic creativity.
I am most proud of how much I have grown since starting my business three years ago. What began as an opportunity to explore my creativity has developed into a passion where I continue to learn new techniques and challenge myself artistically. Seeing clients happy and excited about my work is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
What sets me apart from others is that I stay true to my own creative style rather than trying to copy what everyone else is doing. Although event decorating is a competitive industry, I believe originality and authenticity are important. My décor reflects my personality, creativity, and attention to detail, which allows me to create designs that are unique and meaningful for each celebration.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I view risk-taking as an important part of growth and creativity. Starting KD Events Décor was a risk because I was unsure of what to expect and whether people would appreciate my work. However, taking that chance allowed me to discover a passion for balloon and floral décor while developing new skills and confidence. I believe that taking risks can lead to new opportunities, experiences, and personal growth, especially when you are willing to learn from challenges along the way. While some risks may feel uncomfortable at first, they often help us grow both personally and professionally.
