Hidden Gems: Meet Jordyn Dooley of Mosaic Therapy Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Dooley.

Hi Jordyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was twenty-one, had graduated from university in three years with honors, was interning for the PGA Tour, and studying for the LSATs. Needless to say, I was combining all the ingredients for a world-class breakdown.
Instead, I moved West.
I learned to ski, reconnected with my art, traveled, and gave myself permission to slow down long enough to figure out what might come next. Along the way, I experienced accomplishment, uncertainty, fulfillment, and periods of feeling completely lost. I explored different careers, relationships, creative pursuits, and personal challenges—often becoming very good at making not feeling okay look okay.

There were moments when I thought I had figured it out, where I belonged, what I wanted, who I was, only to realize I had discovered one more piece of who I was becoming.

In many ways, I’m still becoming. But I ultimately found a career in therapy that I feel deeply passionate about. My practice continues to evolve, and so does my understanding of balance, ambition, identity, and what it means to build a life that actually feels like your own.

That experience is a significant part of why I’m drawn to working with teen girls and young women. I understand the pressure to achieve, to have a plan, and to look like you’re doing just fine while privately questioning what you want or where you fit. My own path continues to inform my passion for helping young women navigate those questions—not by having everything figured out, but by developing the confidence and self-trust to find their own way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would describe my path as bumpy, winding, uphill, downhill, and, at times, smooth pavement. There were moments that felt completely outside of my control, periods so busy and packed that I barely had time to think, moments of complete escape, and others when I felt solid and grounded. There were times when I resisted where the path was taking me, and others when I learned to trust the process and accept the development that came with it.

During one period in my twenties, I was working three jobs just to make ends meet and find my footing, one clinical, one nonprofit, and another serving prime rib in a jean skirt. In graduate school, I had professors tell me I wasn’t cut out for the field and that I should lower my expectations. Rather than accepting their assessment, I challenged it, eventually finding myself in a meeting with the dean advocating for my place in the program and the career I wanted to pursue.

There were personal stretches that tested me in entirely different ways. I went through the end of a long-term relationship while driving across the country alone, navigating snowstorms, tornado warnings, and torrential downpours along the way. Somewhere in the middle of all of it, I began to recognize that I was stronger than the loss of a relationship I had placed so much value in, and that I could continue moving forward even when the road ahead looked nothing like I had planned.
It wasn’t an easy or straightforward path, but navigating it became easier as I learned how to read the signs, adapt when the road changed, trust the direction when I couldn’t see exactly where it was leading, and forge my own way when necessary. I think I’ve learned that growth isn’t always about finding the smoothest road. Sometimes it’s about becoming more confident in your ability to navigate whatever road you’re on.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mosaic Therapy Miami?
Mosaic Therapy Miami is a private psychotherapy practice in Coconut Grove focused on helping teens, young adults, and adults navigate anxiety, perfectionism, relationships, identity, and major life transitions. I have a particular passion for working with teen girls and college-aged women who are bright, ambitious, and highly motivated, but who can also be incredibly hard on themselves. Many of my clients appear to be doing exceptionally well from the outside while internally struggling with anxiety, obsessive thinking, self-doubt, relationship challenges, or the pressure to constantly achieve.

My approach is warm, conversational, and collaborative. I want therapy to be a place where clients feel genuinely understood, but I also believe they should leave with greater insight, practical tools, and new ways of understanding themselves. My background as both a licensed psychotherapist and registered art therapist allows me to draw from traditional evidence-based approaches, including CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and trauma-informed therapy while also incorporating creativity and experiential work when it is helpful.

What I believe sets Mosaic apart is that I don’t see ambition or sensitivity as problems that need to be eliminated. Often, the qualities that make someone successful such as their drive, awareness, empathy, high standards, or desire to do things well are the same qualities that can become overwhelming when they aren’t balanced with flexibility and self-trust. My work is about helping clients find that middle ground rather than asking them to become less of who they are.

I’m particularly proud that Mosaic has continued to evolve alongside me. My work has taken me from Idaho to Miami and has included private practice, community mental health, trauma and grief work, retreats, art therapy, and collaboration with schools and other professionals. Each experience has shaped the kind of practice I wanted to create: one that feels personal, grounded, creative, and connected to the community.

Ultimately, I want people to know that therapy at Mosaic isn’t about having something “wrong” with you or needing someone else to tell you how to live your life. It’s an opportunity to better understand yourself, recognize patterns that may no longer be serving you, build skills for navigating difficult moments, and develop enough trust in yourself to make choices that feel authentic to the life you want to create.

How do you think about happiness?
My mind immediately goes to some of the things I have historically found myself most in combat with: routine, groundedness, productivity, and achievement. Over the years, I’ve had to reevaluate my relationship with each of them. I’ve learned that structure can be grounding without being rigid, and that productivity and achievement can be fulfilling without being the measures by which I determine whether a day, or I, have been worthwhile.

I’ve also learned to expand my definition of happiness to include things that can seem much smaller or simpler: my dog and the long walks I get to take with her, my husband’s flexible schedule and the leisurely mornings we’re able to spend together, or having the time and physical ability to move my body.

I’m learning to look at the quieter seasons differently, too. When my schedule isn’t packed with clients, I try to see the open space less as a sign that I should be doing more and more as an opportunity to paint, make art, or invest in another part of myself that matters to me.

I think happiness for me has become less about reaching a particular benchmark and more about noticing what is already present. It’s an ongoing practice of shifting my attention away from what life isn’t giving me and appreciating what it is.
