Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Scott.
Hi Jay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I got involved with Habatat Galleries when I met my ex-wife in 1999. Her mother, Linda was the original founder. I opened my own gallery in 2007, then took over the flagship Palm Beach gallery in 2011. The gallery celebrated its 50 year anniversary this year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle along the way was my ex-wife and I divorcing. We were 50/50 owners and owned the gallery together for years before I was able to buy her out. It was hard working with my ex for many years. There has also been many financial struggles along the way like most businesses experience as well. With my new online approach though, things have been booming since COVID-19 hit in 2020.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Habatat Galleries was originally founded in 1971. We are the biggest contemporary glass sculpture gallery in the US. The gallery is known worldwide in the glass community. We represent the top glass artists from all over the world and work with private collectors, interior designers & corporate firms to place art.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
For years, I played drums with multiple rock bands. My most recent project was with a West Palm Beach based Nirvana Tribute band called Smells Like Grunge. We played all over the East Coast of the United States recreating famous Nirvana shows. I was the “Dave Grohl” in the band. We played shows for over 5 years but are now broken up.
