Hidden Gems: Meet George Mavrookas of Agape Behavioral Healthcare

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Mavrookas.

Hi George, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was raised by entrepreneurs and surrounded by them my entire life, so it only makes sense I am one today. My achievements have been of all sorts. I’ve built things, I’ve lost things, and I’ve bounced back more times than I can count. I think that’s one of my biggest accomplishments – my ability to get up every time, and when I do, I am better, and I am stronger.

Aside from being a father to the most amazing young man, it has been an honor building Agape Behavioral Healthcare. It started as a seed and today it’s an incredibly safe, space where individuals are healing and recovering every day from alcohol and drug addiction, as well as mental health and trauma struggles.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like anything else, it takes time to find the rhythm and flow of things. As we’ve built Agape, there have been ups and downs, highs and lows, wins and losses. To me, the challenge doesn’t go away.

It’s a part of life and certainly a part of building a business. Every day, there’s a potential obstacle and also an opportunity. What matters is having the awareness and learning how to respond to the challenges. When you respond, you solve, and we are all about staying in the solution.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Agape Behavioral Healthcare currently has three locations and offers all levels of care for individuals struggling with substance abuse and mental health. Our St. Lucie County facilities offer mental health residential and substance abuse detox and residential.

Our Fort Lauderdale location offers the lower levels of care for mental health and substance use: DayNight PHP, Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and Outpatient (OP). The center of our program is designed to help individuals identify their underlying core issues and return to a place of wholeness in mind, body, and spirit. We are committed to not only helping individuals

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve experienced a lot of accomplishments in life, but my greatest is indeed my son. There is no greater joy or reward than having the opportunity to be his dad – to teach him, to guide him, to protect him, and to love him.
