Hidden Gems: Meet Gaby Palmisano of palmi + sano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gaby Palmisano.

Gaby, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up in Miami, I’ve always had a deep passion for both the arts and movement. I played sports, danced, trained for the circus, and eventually took that love for movement to the collegiate level, playing Division I water polo. From early on, I was drawn to the natural synergy between art and physical expression, and I knew I wanted to find a way to bring those worlds together.

After gaining experience as an instructor, I felt called to build something of my own—something that reflected not just how I move, but how I see wellness as a whole. Alongside teaching, I’ve worked in events and PR with global wellness brands, which expanded my perspective on the ever-evolving world of health, movement, and mindfulness. That experience gave me a unique advantage, allowing me to blend a strong business mindset with my abilities as an instructor and truly understand every role behind the scenes.

Through palmi + sano, I bring that passion home to Wynwood’s vibrant community—creating a space where strength meets artistry, and where wellness isn’t just practiced, but genuinely experienced.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but the challenges have been intentional. I had a different path than most studios in Miami—I opened solo and self-funded, saving carefully and taking my time to build something sustainable. Financially, the first studio was about proving the concept. I knew it didn’t have to be big to be impactful; it just needed to be thoughtful, authentic, and strong at its core.

That approach came with its own challenges—wearing every hat, being patient with growth, and trusting the process without outside backing. But those challenges also gave me clarity, control, and a deep understanding of every part of the business.

That said, I truly couldn’t have asked for a better start. The team, the community, and the support around palmi + sano have exceeded anything I imagined. Even as a smaller studio, we’re making huge waves in Miami, and the love and loyalty from our community continue to remind me that taking the leap was worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of palmi + sano. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
palmi + sano is a movement and wellness studio rooted in the belief that strength extends far beyond the physical. Located in the heart of Wynwood, a neighborhood known for its vibrant artist community, we’ve intentionally built a space where movement, creativity, and human connection exist side by side.

What we do goes beyond traditional fitness. We specialize in (heated) mindful, strength-based movement that encourages resilience—both on and off the mat—while fostering a strong sense of belonging. Our classes are designed to be intentional, creative, and accessible, blending functional strength with fluidity and presence. But the experience doesn’t stop there. Through artist residencies, wellness workshops, and art-focused conversations, we create opportunities for our community to connect not just through movement, but through shared inspiration and expression.

What truly sets us apart is how we bridge wellness and culture. We’re known for hosting thoughtfully curated pop-ups, art shows, and collaborations with top brands, as well as for introducing signature offerings like our red light therapy movement classes—an experience that combines strength and recovery in a way that feels both innovative and grounded. Every one of our red light events sold out, reaffirming our belief that people are craving experiences that are intentional, elevated, and different.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the community we’ve built. Even as a boutique studio, palmi + sano has made a meaningful impact by staying true to its values: creativity, inclusivity, and authenticity. We’re not trying to be the biggest (yet!)—we’re focused on being thoughtful and deeply connected to our community.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Miami is something I didn’t fully appreciate until I left. After living in New York City for a few years, I realized how much I value nature, greenery, and being outdoors. I remember going days without seeing a tree, and coming back to Miami—with its gorgeous weather—completely shifted how I live. I’m outside more, getting sunshine, moving my body, and everything feels more accessible and convenient.

I’m also deeply grateful for the sense of community here. The fitness and wellness scene in Miami is incredibly connective—it’s about more than just working out. I’ve made genuine friendships through classes, studios, and shared movement, and that sense of belonging feels really special. Being born and raised here gives me a deep appreciation for the people and the culture that shape the city.

What I love least is also tied to that same growth. Watching Miami evolve has been a mix of pride and heartbreak. So much of the change has been positive, but I do miss the city’s historical charm—the art deco vibes, the character, the imperfections. Sometimes it feels like everything is becoming overly modernized, with expensive restaurants from other cities and luxury residences on every corner. It can feel like the soul of the city is getting pushed aside.

At the end of the day, it’s a love–hate relationship. But it’s my home, and caring this deeply about it is part of what keeps me grounded in why I do what I do here.
