Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jeanne Assinthe.
Hi Dr. Jeanne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey is deeply intertwined with the mission of Amitie Wellness. It began not just in academic halls, but in the lived experiences of communities often overlooked by traditional systems. With a foundation in criminal justice and a Masters and Doctorate in Social Work, I spent years on the front lines in youth residential services, behavioral health centers, and family courts, witnessing firsthand how trauma cycles through generations and systems.
I saw that conventional approaches often addressed symptoms without healing roots. This realization sparked a vision for something more integrative and culturally resonant. I pursued my Doctorate in Social Work to bridge this gap, blending clinical excellence with ancestral wisdom and liberation psychology.
This led to founding Amitie Wellness, Inc. We are more than a practice; we are a Trauma-Informed, Holistic Wellness Service Provider. Our purpose is to offer integrative healing for mind, body, and spirit by dismantling intergenerational trauma. We do this through clinical therapy, Cultural Healing Circles, Empowering Families parenting programs, and even ketamine-assisted therapy retreats, all designed to foster wholeness.
Today, that vision has expanded into a multi-state practice and a Wellness Academy, where we train professionals and organizations in trauma-informed, culturally responsive care. Every step has been guided by a single question: How do we not just treat pain, but cultivate profound and sustainable healing? My story is about building a bridge, from surviving to thriving and walking it with every client, family, and community we serve.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the road has been anything but smooth. As a Black professional and entrepreneur in this space, the challenges are deeply woven into the very fabric of the system I aim to transform.
The journey has been marked by the heavy weight of stigma—both the external bias that questions credibility and the internalized pressure to outperform just to be seen as equal. There’s a profound lack of available capital and resources for ventures like mine that center culturally-rooted, decolonial healing, while traditional models are routinely funded.
The systemic oppression extends into the practicalities of sustaining care: battling medical billing systems that undervalue behavioral health, and particularly under-reimburse the complex, relational, trauma-informed work that is so vital. There is a glaring bias in what “science” and research are valued, often dismissing ancestral and holistic practices that have sustained communities for generations.
Perhaps one of the most poignant struggles has been the isolation—the lack of a sound community of peers who fully understand the dual load of healing ourselves while fighting to create a sanctuary for our clients. Navigating personal challenges while shouldering the collective trauma of those you serve is a weight rarely acknowledged.
These struggles aren’t just obstacles; they are the very reason Amitie Wellness exists. Each barrier illuminated the gap in the system and steeled my resolve to build a model that operates with a trauma-informed heart not just for our clients, but in defiance of a system that too often inflicts its own wounds. The road is rugged, but it has forged a purpose that is unshakable.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Amitie Wellness, Inc. is a Trauma-Informed, Holistic Wellness Service Provider founded on the principle of Integrative Healing for Mind, Body, and Spirit. We are a multi-state practice and academy dedicated to transforming mental health care by dismantling intergenerational trauma and building culturally sustainable models of wellness.
What we do and specialize in: We bridge profound clinical expertise with ancestral wisdom. Our work is built on three pillars:
Clinical Services: Providing licensed therapy (individual, family, group) and targeted case management with a deep specialization in trauma, using modalities like EMDR, liberation psychology, and our unique Cultural Healing Circles.
Training & Academy: Through our Wellness Academy, we offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and B2B Corporate Training programs, certifying professionals and organizations in trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices. We are an Approved Provider with the Florida Certification Board.
Innovative Healing Retreats: We lead wellness immersives that integrate ketamine-assisted therapy, somatic practices, and ancestral rituals for deep, transformative healing.
What sets us apart: We operate at the powerful intersection of clinical rigor and cultural reclamation. As a practice founded and led by a Black professional with a Doctorate in Social Work, we don’t just apply trauma-informed principles—we live them and have built them into our corporate bylaws. Our Empowering Families program is a decolonizing parenting model, and we conduct equity audits for other organizations. We are known for our ability to hold both the science of healing and the spirit of community.
What we are most proud of, brand-wise: We are most proud of building a brand that is both a sanctuary and a system-changer. We are proud to be a trusted resource for individuals on their journey to wholeness and a sought-after trainer for institutions seeking to reform their practices. Our brand stands for uncompromising quality, radical compassion, and the unwavering belief that healing is a right, not a privilege.
What we want readers to know: Amitie Wellness is more than a service provider; we are a healing ecosystem. Whether you are an individual seeking therapy from a clinician who truly understands complex trauma, a professional needing CEUs that challenge the status quo, or an organization ready to build a trauma-informed workplace, we offer a pathway. We invite you to connect with a practice where your journey to wholeness is honored with expertise, innovation, and heart.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice is rooted in the lessons from a road that was far from smooth. If you’re just beginning, especially in the realms of healing, wellness, or social impact, here is what I wish I had fully known:
Your Lived Experience is Your Core Competency. Do not minimize or separate your personal journey from your professional offering. The challenges, cultural wisdom, and resilience you carry are not baggage—they are your unique lens and your greatest source of empathy and innovation. What you had to heal from or navigate is the very expertise your community needs.
Build Your Model With Trauma-Informed Principles, Not Just Apply Them Later. From your corporate bylaws to your client intake process, design every system with safety, trust, transparency, and empowerment baked in. This isn’t just clinical best practice; it’s sustainable business practice. It protects you, your team, and those you serve from replicating the very harms you seek to heal.
Secure Your Foundations Early. Get clear on your legal structure, compliance, and billing systems from the start. The systemic biases—in funding, reimbursement, and credibility—are real. Understanding the “business of healing” is not a distraction from your mission; it is the armor that allows your mission to survive and scale. Seek mentors who understand both the heart and the ledger.
Cultivate Your Sanctuary Before You Need It. The isolation can be profound. Intentionally build your community of peers, healers, and truth-tellers now. You cannot pour from an empty cup while navigating systemic oppression and holding space for collective trauma. Your own healing and support network are not indulgences; they are critical infrastructure.
Specialize in Your “And.” You don’t have to choose between being a clinician, an advocate, a trainer, or a researcher. The most powerful practitioners are the ones who can say, “I am a clinician and a policy influencer,” or “I provide therapy and develop culturally-rooted curricula.” Your unique combination of skills is what will set you apart and allow you to create holistic change.
Finally, remember that you are not just starting a business or a practice—you are planting a seed in soil that may not always feel fertile. Water it with conviction, protect it with strong boundaries, and trust that your unique offering is needed. The road is rugged, but it forges the most resilient and necessary healers.
