My name is Diana Barrera, and I am originally from Bogotá, Colombia. I moved to the U.S. in 2006 and have built a career as a financial advisor, accumulating 20 years of experience in finance with various institutions, including Chase, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, and LPL Financial.
As a single mom to two wonderful kids—Valentina, who is 14, and Michael, who is 3—I strive to balance my professional life with my family. I have a passion for traveling around the world and engaging in social work, which allows me to give back to the community. In my personal time, I practice meditation and enjoy running and working out to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
With a desire to make a greater impact on the lives of others, I founded Lotus Finance LLC. Through this venture, I aim to help people leverage money and finance as tools for improving their lives, using the resources and knowledge I’ve gained throughout my journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I moved to this country, I faced numerous challenges that tested my resilience and determination. One of the first obstacles was learning the language, which was essential for my integration and success. I dedicated myself to mastering English, knowing that it would open doors for me in both education and my career. I embraced the journey of navigating the education system, understanding that it would take time and effort to achieve my goals.
Throughout this process, I learned the importance of enjoying what I do. I made it a priority to focus on my passion for finance, which helped me stay motivated even during the tough times. I always kept a plan in mind, envisioning where I wanted to go and the steps I needed to take to get there.
On a personal level, being a single mom with two kids added another layer of complexity to my life. Finding the balance between my professional career and my personal life has been a continuous journey. I strive to take care of myself while ensuring that I spend quality time with Valentina and Michael. This balance is crucial for my well-being and for being the best mother I can be. Despite the challenges, I remain committed to both my career and my family, knowing that each step I take contributes to a better future for all of us. Transitioning from a stable corporate job, where I had built a successful career and enjoyed a steady income, to embarking on my entrepreneurial journey with Lotus Finance LLC was both exhilarating and daunting. I had always valued the security that came with my corporate position, but deep down, I knew I wanted to make a more significant impact in the financial world.
The decision to leave my stable job wasn’t easy. It required a lot of introspection and planning. I spent time reflecting on my goals and dreams, and I realized that my true passion lay in helping others achieve their financial aspirations. I wanted to create a space where I could offer personalized services and guidance, something that often felt lost in the corporate environment.
To overcome the fear of uncertainty, I focused on my vision for Lotus Finance LLC. I developed a comprehensive business plan, outlining my objectives and the unique value I wanted to provide to my clients. I also tapped into my network of contacts and sought advice from fellow entrepreneurs, which helped me gain insights into the challenges and rewards of starting my own business.
