Derri, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Believe it or not my journey began far from the world of fashion. I studied Forensic Science with a minor in Psychology and English at John Jay College of Criminal Justice CUNY . I was deeply passionate about law, research, crime scene investigation, how the human mind works- skills which trained me to analyze the smallest details in precision.
While living in New York, I became involved in the world of pageantry and modeling; my love for what many affectionately called “overdressing,” blossomed into something much bigger. I discovered a new passion for fashion, styling and travel, realizing style could be just as powerful a form of communication as words.
Today, as a boutique owner with proud Caribbean roots from Antigua and Barbuda, I channel my analytical background with my creative spirit. I use fashion as a language, one that helps clients to express what they sometimes cannot articulate themselves. Creating the persona a client wants to embody, and watching them step into that version of themselves is truly what I love most about what I do .
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not, but I’ve learned that the most rewarding paths in life are rarely smooth. Choosing to transition from forensics to the world of fashion was both exhilarating and intimidating. It was a leap completely outside my comfort zone. I didn’t have formal training in design, styling, merchandising or business at the time, and often found myself second guessing decisions. What I did have, was unwavering drive to build a brand where the everyday woman could indulge in fashion while learning to dress for her body type, lifestyle or personality archetype. I immersed myself in the industry, studying trends, assisted on photoshoots, attended workshops, trade shows, styling celebrities pro bono, experimenting with a small batch purchasing and taking courses to understand the business side of the fashion .
There were moments of doubt, especially early on when people questioned my career pivot. Nevertheless, I leaned into my curiosity and discipline – the same qualities I developed studying forensics and carved my own lane. Every obstacle taught me something valuable about persistence, creativity , intuition and most importantly , the power of betting on myself.
Looking back, I would not trade the challenges or growing pains for anything . They have shaped my confidence as both a professional and an entrepreneur. And today, those experiences also fuel the philanthropic side of my boutique; reminding me to pay it forward, uplift other women and use fashion as a tool to support communities and causes that matter.

Each year, the boutique sponsors individuals taking their first brave step into pageantry, offering wardrobe support and mentorship to help them shine. We also host an annual Women’s Empowerment Brunch on the island of Antigua dedicated where the proceeds are donated to various causes, the last one being mental health, where the proceeds were donated directly to the local mental facility. These initiatives reflect our belief that sale is not just about appearance- it is the vehicle for impact, visibility and meaningful change.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The important lesson I have learned on this journey is that your path does not have to make sense to anyone but you. Betting on myself even when the outcome was uncertain has been my most powerful decision. Reinvention became my superpower. The ability to evolve is a quiet luxury that many often overlook. Every challenge or moment of self doubt has ultimately been an invitation to rise into a a stronger and aligned version of myself.
After a decade in this industry , I have learned that outgrowing people, careers, identities and entire chapters is not a loss- it is evolution. And evolution is the most exquisite part of becoming. Staying the same, shrinking or repeating who once were is the real disservice.
Growth is intentional and transformative. If you are not elevating, redefining or creating new possibilities for yourself, you’re standing still- and stillness is never where your destiny resides.
